Despite Overwhelming Vote in Support of Recall - Republican Party Spokesman Makes Disparaging Comments on Recall Gray Davis Effort
Help make sure that some of the political operatives in Sacramento who dont understand a grassroots efforts dont smear our good deeds in the news media. Today, Rob Stutzman who serves as a spokesman for the California Republican Party, made the following comments about the recall effort:
So far it appears to be failing They have not raised the necessary dollars to qualify the recall. The Internet appears to be yielding tens of thousands, not hundreds of thousands of signatures. The Republican Party is still waiting for a broader-based coalition to materialize that we think is necessary for the recall to succeed.
What is remarkable about Mr. Stutzmans comments is that these come after the delegates to the California Republican Party state convention voted overwhelmingly in March to endorse the recall effort. This followed a similar endorsement by both the Libertarian and American Independent parties. The Green Party is considering an endorsement of the recall effort on May 4th.
Mr. Stutzman is apparently acting out of line and misrepresenting the views of the majority of California Republican Party members.
We ask that registered Republicans who support the Recall Gray Davis effort contact him:

We will pass 100,000 signatures this week on the strength of the Internet alone. Total dollars raised between the Recall Gray Davis Committee and the People's Advocate group is $500,000 to date. Yet the newspapers report specifically OPPOSITE information.
To then have the CRP spokesman piss on us is unforgivable. He is not speaking for the party that voted overwhelmingly to back this recall - many of these people have volunteered and worked very hard in collecting these 100,000 signatures. We hope you all join this FReep! We will be asking our 70,000+ people on our mailing list to join this FReep as well!
Didn't know we even had a Republican Party out here.
NO KIDDING! With friends like these - who needs enemies!
I would ask whether the vote of the GOP delegates at the recent convention was binding on the Party. One certainly gets the sense that the professional Republians are trying to stay clear of the recall effort.
How many do you need? What's the deadine?
To demonstrate the success of the recall effort, just look at the leading recall website. We've had so many downloads of petitions (well into the hundreds of thousands) that in just two months we have leaped to become one of the most popular California political websites (notwithstanding national interest sites based in California - perfect example, FreeRepublic.com which ranks very high.

Rankings come from www.Alexa.com - partnership of Amazon and Google for Website Popularity Ranking
- Note the ranking is leaps and bounds above the very own CRP website (employer of Rob Stutzman who bad-mouthed us).
The idea here is to collect first few hundred thousand signatures from the online initiative plus volunteers. Meanwhile fundraising would continue to get our $500,000 raised to $1 million or more.
We would then employ signature gatherers and direct mail of hundreds of thousands of petitions to get us the 1.2-1.3 million we want (to ensure enough of a cushion so that we can withstand disapproved petitions). We are ahead of our schedule with both signatures and money.
The reason we are seeing a continuing increase in signatures received is because our fundraising is exceeding expectations. Thus we have already mailed out tens of thousands of petitions, in addition to the 400,000 already downloaded and the 50,000 that have already been emailed. This is just from our committee alone.
As people turn in their petitions expect to see us go from 100,000 to 500,000 signatures in no time!
