What an idiot. It probably *isn't* very safe. The problem with this kind of legislation (from gun control, affirmative action, and other long-held PC dogmas) is that they require law-abiding or regular citizens to place their lives and property in mortal danger so others can ignore reality. People *die* because of this nonsense. I've got news folks - reality doesn't like to be ignored for very long.

With a number like that, I think the city council is typical of liberal municipal governments everywhere - since they can't (or won't) fix the problem of crime, they want to burden the local businesses with the cost of crime. I have said it before, and I'll say it again:

Oakland, CA, is home to every piece of riff-raff and street vermin imaginable - and they are there because of the ultra-tolerant LIBERAL/SOCIALIST mentality of city government, a place where a large proportion of the population is made up of whiny, welfare bums, who can always find an excuse to blame somebody else for their problems, and who supplement their social welfare income by selling drugs and stealing from those who work for a living. The city of Oakland, with a population near a half million citizens, has granted just ONE concealed carry permit, the one given to Mayor Jerry Brown's bodyguard. Everybody else is just SOL, unless they live and work behind iron bars. The entire city is one open "free crime" zone, courtesy of the city council's refusal to allow people to fight back. The city police force does as good a job as any, but this is just another example of how criminals have nearly free reign in places where only cops and crooks carry firearms, kind of like England.
