Well, what the hell?! I admit I haven't been following this war as much as I should have (we won too fast to pay proper attention), but the last I heard this guy killed himself.

No, what happened is that somebody posted an article from some web site in Iran which said that two guys coming in from Baghdad said that they heard that Sahhaf had hung himself.

This was immediately interpreted by some people as meaning that Sahhaf had hung himself. After all, it was obvious that AP, Reuters, CNN, and the NY Times were reporting totally bogus stuff about quagmires and pauses and other nonsense. So when iranianbs.com weighed in with something, many figured it must be true.

Who knows? The Iranian site said he hanged himself. Some Portuguese reporters said they were negotiating with him. But then when they actually showed up to meet, it appeared to be some kind of hoax. Now here's Al Bawaba — your source for up-to-the-minute news from wherever the hell they are — saying something else.

Until you see Baghdad Bob in place and anchoring the CBS Evening News, don't believe a thing.

Here is what I always believed in my heart. You have to know Baghdad Bob. He is a survivor big time or he would not have gone out there and told such whoppers every day. I KNEW all the stories of his demise must be untrue because they were not congruent with his personality. I definitely could see him running off with the journalists money, though. But not hanging himself. He has just been waiting for the right moment to show himself. Probably all those other stories about him dying were to throw us off..in his own words "As ususal."
