If you're looking for someone to blame for Louisiana's high auto insurance rates, you won't have to look far.
It's our own fault, industry experts and insurance company officials say.
"We drink and drive. We speed. We don't wear seat belts. We have accidents, and then we wonder why our insurance rates are so high," said Gary Stephenson, a spokesman for State Farm Insurance.

"We drink and drive. We speed. We don't wear seat belts. We have accidents, and then we wonder why our insurance rates are so high," said Gary Stephenson, a spokesman for State Farm Insurance. No, Mr. Stephenson, "we" do not do those things.
There are individuals who do those things, and they are stealing from those who don't under cover of your state-mandated protection racket.

They also charge you a good amount more if you have had credit problems. What a scam.

New Orleans is the problem. It is a city of decay - has one of the highest murder rates, with carjackings and auto theft common. A major portion of the urban population drives without insurance, leaving victims holding the bill.......

a city of decay
Try telling that to Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-LA., whose political career was saved in 2002 by huge support from the City of New Orleans.

I would love to see legislation making it illegal for insurance companies to use a persons credit history in determining premiums. I've never seen anyone drive with their credit report.
If a person does not pay their premium as agreed, cancel the insurance.

I am going to a conference in a couple of weeks in Lafayette and was told by one of my nurses who is from La. that in lafayette you can get frozen drinks at the drive thru. Their open container law says as long as you have a lid on your drink its perfectly legal.
So I can imagine their insurance rates are a tad higher

A major portion of the urban population drives without insurance, leaving victims holding the bill....... It's the same way here ---only about half the drivers drive with insurance and they tend to be the better drivers but they're stuck paying the entire costs of all accidents. What most drivers do is take out a month's policy and then stop paying because they have a card that gives a future expiration---the insurance companies have offered to report them to the state of Texas but the state doesn't care.

Oh yeah? Try this. Everybody in Louisiana should do exactly as recommended in this article and see if insurance companies lower premiums. Ha Ha Ha.
Here's a headline you'll never read: INSURANCE COMPANIES LOWER PREMIUMS FOR AUTO INSURANCE ACROSS THE BOARD IN (fill in the name of your state)
