I was surprized no one had posted this. The formatting required fixing to display similarly here as it does on HG's site.
Enjoy.

Wow, some sanity coming into the debate. I regularly visit junkscience.com with posts all the insanity about global warming. My favorite was a scientist saying that there will be palm trees in the alps in a few years. You can go to that site and search on palm trees to find it.

Well, I sure would like to know how many donations certain organizations "concerned" about the environment are receiving. Most of the folks who purport to be series about the environment are only engaging in scaremongering to collect $$$$$ from unsuspecting, ignorant and naive individuals.

Yep, carbon-14 levels in tree rings have been tied to solar activity and correlated with global weather patterns, including the "little ice age". Seems there is much more to the sun's activity than a simple 11 year sun spot cycle.

In other words, natural factors could be more important than previously assumed. This is sacrilege to the those in the Church of the Warming Planet. But being from Harvard this report is very important.

One reason the administration of President Bush gives for not signing the international 1997 Kyoto Protocol to limit carbon dioxide emissions is that sufficient scientific information about the cause of global warming is lacking. Another reason not to enter Kyoto is because Kyoto would become a bottomless pit that could never be stopped.
Take the example that Kyoto is ratified and meets it's stated goals;
If the Earth then warms (for whatever reason) it will be said that we started too late (USA fault) and we must double our efforts.
If the Earth then cools (for whatever reason) it will be said see how well this has worked (dispite a slow start by the USA), now we must double or efforts.

I am probably the only person on this forum who read both this original "scientific" paper as well as the papers published by Mann, Jones, and others. The paper by Baliunas and Soon at the top of this thread did not do a quantitative analysis. They did not calculate global or hemispheric average temperatures. Their conclusion is weak and actually fails to contradict the other papers. In making the comparison with 20th century temperatures, they fail to consider anything but the average temperature over a time period of at least 50 years. This automatically excludes the recent warming trend from consideration. They failed to get their paper published in a prominent journal. They falsely claim funding from NASA and AFOSR (I checked their grant numbers). They misrepresent the conclusions of other studies, and I have obtained a list of those papers which are ignored by this study but which are included in the studies of other researchers. This is exactly what I expect when the American Petroleum Institute pays astrophysicists (who have no previous experience in paleoclimate) to review paleoclimate data in their spare time.
A conclusion from several other papers published in this area of study is that recent global temperatures are higher than any of the past 1,000 years with 95% confidence.
Man, this post is good. I better save it for my file.
Thanks guys for the inspiration.
