not useless; just secure and can be accessed w/o a key in seconds. It will keep it safe from both kids and criminals.

I don't believe in unloaded weapons. Every weapon in the house (except the cross bow) is fully loaded 24/7.

Should make things very interesting if there's a fire...

BTW, another thing about having firearms in condition 3: the first thing you'll do upon picking up is check their status. If someone has "helpfully" unloaded your weapon, you'll find out about it before you pull the trigger at an attacker and nothing happens.

If there is a fire, the bullets will go off if they are loaded or not. What is the difference? Heck, inside the gun safe I have about 600 rounds of .762 ammo - that will be more "interesting" in a fire than the 7 rounds in the .45!

As far as someone unloading one of the weapons; that won't happen in this home (or the next). My family knows weapons are to be loaded 24/7. This actually makes things easier; you know the rule about treating every weapon as if it is loaded? Well, here they all are - 24/7!

And as far as safety is concerned, why the heck do you think I've been looking for a gun vault? Did you think I want them for looks? No! I want them so that we have easy access to weapons that are ready to go, but still are secure from children or criminals! What the heck did you think this whole post was about anyway? In addition, what good is an unloaded weapon? Even worse, a locked up and unloaded weapon? Will you be able to get it out, and loaded in time when you hear your door being broken into? Probably not!

I still find your fire comment interesting. Were I a fire fighter I'd rather deal with the potential of rounds inside a weapon going off than loose rounds! If there are loose rounds going off, there is no telling where they might go!

Gezz, where have I been? I guess looking for gun vaults in all the wrong places! Cheaper than Dirt? Gezz, that is where I go to stock up on ammo! I guess I just don't think of them for other things.

Anyway guys, thanks for the advice. I decided to go with the following link:
http://www.agenglish.com/Handgun/gunvault.html

I ended up getting a "case" of 3, at a case discount; I got them for $69 ea plus shipping. I just got them Thurs in fact. Today I got weapon #3 to put in the 3rd vault - a .357 mag Ruger.

Thanks all for putting me back on track.

Sincerely,

Mark A Sity
