Why do these virulent new viral strains come out of South China?

Some virologists implicate the farming practices common there. In southern provinces of China, farmers raise hens, ducks, pigs and fish in one integrated system. They use the droppings and leftover food from the pigs to feed the fowl. The fowl droppings, in turn, help fertilize the fish ponds.

While it sounds like a perfect system, raising three different species with no waste, the species may be exchanging viruses among themselves through the feces.

This whole controversy can be solved when Toronto speaks with one voice on the topic, instead of running out this and that expert and politician. I think Baghdad Bob should be the official government spokesman to answer any and all questions related to this deadly disease. Bob is succint, on message, and unflappable. All of the qualities needed in a good spokesperson.

I slept in two Toronto hotels last year. I've gone Jean Chretien one better and thankfully SARS wasn't in the news then. Is Toronto safe? I'd say it depends on Canada's government giving the city a clean bill of health for people are not yet convinced its safe to come back there. I can only imagine how deserted Yonge Street and the downtown district around the world-famous CN Tower must be right now.

How can this be, isn't the WHO part of the UN? Surely no one, especially a Canadian government official would even think of disagreeing with the UN.
