SARS scare in South Texas

SARS Scare Reaches South Texas LAST UPDATE: 4/25/2003 5:22:41 PM Posted By: Julie Fike

The SARS border scare reached all the way to Laredo. Border agents in South Texas near Freer Friday arrested 17 illegal immigrants. Six of them were Chinese. Agents took the six to a doctor’s hospital in Laredo. They were tested for SARS. Three of the six were given a clean bill of health.

The results are still pending on the other three. Laredo Immigration Assistant Chief George Gunnoe says he believes the final test results later Friday night. Gunnoe says the chances of them having SARS is very low. If all are clear of the disease, severe acute respiratory syndrome, they will immediately face deportation charges.

Another reason I'm glad I'm not on the border anymore.

CLOSE THE BORDERS!!!!!!

Fat chance. Your government has no intention of reforming immigration or border security...

As jumbo jets are lined up from here to Asia, arriving at an airport near you......

American's refuse to wake up to the immigraion, open border time bomb.....

Close borders? or do you really mean control the borders? "Closing borders" has the same effect as gun control. It filters out the good people and allows the number of "outlaws" to increase. Controlling the borders in a realistic manner is a different story. Right now, it is virtually impossible to get a family member or friend into this country. On the other hand, an illegal alien would be welcomed with open arms and offered scholarships, too.

Yes, I've already thought about that. What next for our poor
BP/Customs agents ? "Haz-Mat" suits complete with gas masks?

Oh, to be sure the Globaloney 'Big-Boys' die the same as the 'Little-People' ... just perhaps not quite as fast.

See, they've invested so much more in their insulation and feel so much better protected, from 'The Great Unwashed'. They're surrounded by their army of goons out on their remote islands, and in their isolated and gated communities ... riding back and forth to their cocktail parties inside their 21st century, million-dollar, bulletproof limos.

Living inside that world can really create an illusion of real safety.

It's easy to see how they can occasionally fall under the delusion that the common-man need not be treated Constitutionally, with fairness and respect, even right here in the Good 'ol "... land of the free and the home of the brave."

But who was it said, "God is indeed on the side of the 'Little People' .... that's why he made so many of them."

No *spin* needed here. IN MY house, I CLOSE & CONTROL the
front door.....when there's a knock-knock, I OPEN my door,
check out the person, and invite them in, IF I want them in
my HOUSE. And I sure wouldn't expect my NEIGHBORS to foot
bills/costs for damages if I always left the door open, for
just anyone to come in.

You seem confused about this very SIMPLE matter. Do you
work in DC??

I was talking to one of our local Health & Social Services nurses the other day who passes out free municipal health-care to all the Illegals who come through their door.

I asked her why all the warning signs were posted about TB all over the building ?? ... I thought TB had been declared erradicated in the U.S.A. a few years ago.

She reluctantly admitted it was fast becoming a huge problem AGAIN, due to all the "new immigrants".

She flinched somewhat when I asked her if she meant all the new 'Illegals'??

Realistically, what would it cost to completely close/control the borders? If one even wanted to do that?

Realistically, what would it cost to completely close/control the borders? If one even wanted to do that?

Has DC EVER not FOUND the tax dollars to fix any MAJOR
thing in this country that needed fixed ???

Hey, we're "footin' the bills" to secure the borders of Afghanistan @ so many MILLIONS per guard post, and next
will be the borders of Iraq. Our military is plenty good
enough to protect *other* borders for years. Yet we're told
our military can't protect Americans/ American borders.

AS for Mexico, NOTHING the USA has EVER done has improved
the lives for the majority of the poor mexican people.
Maybe it's time for Mexicans to UPRISE (if that's what it
takes) & clear out the corrupt government/drug lords that
now control THEIR country. Mexicans flooding to the USA,
will eventually leave lots of room in mexico for even MORE
crooks drug/lords to MULTIPLY in a safe haven. If the mexicans need any help, they could call on about the MILLION
mexican activists here in the USA screaming for mex. rights
here in the USA.

I think most Americans (like me) would have a lot more respect/offer backing/tax dollars to these activists if
their GOAL was to make the much needed changes in Mexico,
for the poor mexicans, RATHER than DEMANDING that America
& her CITIZENS assimilate to the poor mexicans HERE.

There's going to have to be a country-wide house cleaning
in mexico, before I would ever consider any open borders
with her.

Thanks....I'll get off the soap-box now.....

It happened here in Alice

Oh, Alice always sounds like home. Spent some really good time there as a child. My grandparents, and many other relative are buried there.

My cousin and I would beg a nickle to buy gas for his scooter and we would tour the town. I guess you realize that was a long time ago.

Closing the borders would be bad for Bush with regards to the spanish vote and his re-election in 04. :::sarcasm:::

WEll it would have a negative effect on his campaign contributions from the big guys.

However, the scenario in Texas could have dire consequences. U.S. hospitals along the U.S.-Mexico border are already overwhelmed with illegal alien patients.

Not only along the border - unless you mean as in border states. Any hospital in Texas is being negatively affected by this.

I'm not sure why Bush thinks all hispanics want an open border with Mexico.

Oh, I don't think he does. He knows most Americans don't want it and it makes no difference. IF he doesn't know that Americans of Mexican descent are opposed to it - he just hasn't talked to many of them.
