SARS Scare Reaches South Texas LAST UPDATE: 4/25/2003 5:22:41 PM Posted By: Julie Fike
The SARS border scare reached all the way to Laredo. Border agents in South Texas near Freer Friday arrested 17 illegal immigrants. Six of them were Chinese. Agents took the six to a doctors hospital in Laredo. They were tested for SARS. Three of the six were given a clean bill of health.
The results are still pending on the other three. Laredo Immigration Assistant Chief George Gunnoe says he believes the final test results later Friday night. Gunnoe says the chances of them having SARS is very low. If all are clear of the disease, severe acute respiratory syndrome, they will immediately face deportation charges.

Exactly what the hell is it going to take for us to finally give a damn about who enters this country? I'd build a wall across southern texas myself. >>>>>>>
Gov. needs to get off their butt about our borders NOW.
Last night an "expert" said this SARS might go dormant
during the warm months, and it could be this time NEXT year
before anyone knew if it had been contained.....
Guess our border patrol needs to don protective clothing
and masks.......YIKES!!

http://lmtonline.com/news/s3.htm UPDATE....GOOD news in the Laredo paper, ALL 6 Asians tested were free of SARS
BAD news....BP says from the footprints, some illegals escaped capture, and with bad lighting, agents couldn't tell if the ones who ran off were Asian or Mexican.

Maybe some phone calls to LE and government officials. I'm in Dallas. I'm going to call Dallas mayor's office and my state and federal representatives and complain. I have respiratory problems and my granddaughter has asthma. If I contract SARS odds are I'll die.

The GloBalist 'Big-Boys' won't hear of it.
The Free Trade & 'Open Borders' mantra are closely tied together and are N O T to be threatened or compromised for any reason.

The main thing to watch for is if Ridge got his box of Crayolas out for this one. I can understand, even if I don't agree, the complacency on Mexicans entering the United States. When Asians and middle-easterns enter our country via the border, alarm bells should be going off all over the place.

We have it here in New York too. This thing is going to hit all over the U.S. Closing the borders will not help. It has come over from Hong Kong too don't forget. People who have traveled there have brought it here at least a few months ago before the outbreak was big news. Its too late for that. The only thing they can do is keep track and contain the people who have it.

There is much more to this story than the radio announced. It happened here in Alice, Texas yesterday. The INS stopped a pickup truck loaded with 19 illegals, most of whom were Chinese. When stopped, they all jumped out and started running away. Only 11 were caught and the rest are still being chased in the brush around Alice.
Now, the good part. Some of the ones caught were showing signs of SARS and were flown to Laredo for testing. At last report the tests proved negative.
Their pickup truck is still here at the Sheriffs impound yard with a banner around it to keep people away from it.
Hopefully, we will catch the other ones but this clearly proves how useless our border patrol is in actually stopping anything from coming across the border.

Dream on. I cannot conceive of ANY reason NOT to close our borders - tight. The fact that the danger of open borders has only had cursory attention is criminal. We are suffering financially because of the burden of illegals, and will continue to do so until something is done to protect the borders. I find it difficult to believe that a blind eye is turned only because of cheap labor.

I had a client who managed a large restaurant chain here in KCMO metro area. He said that these restaurants couldn't stay open without I-35 which is the interstate that is a direct shot here from the Mexican border. All the kitchens are staffed with Chinese and Mexican workers (some on temp work visas and some undocumented). I don't think I'm going to be eating in restaurants much for the next month or so.

We have SARS here in Florida too.
However, the scenario in Texas could have dire consequences. U.S. hospitals along the U.S.-Mexico border are already overwhelmed with illegal alien patients.
Mexican border towns (shanty towns) are breeding grounds for all sorts of nasty communicable diseases due to poor sanitation and lack of immunization. This has been going on for years. With the porous Mexican-U.S. border, the U.S. hospitals are essentially bankrupt for treating all the Mexicans.
I have visited many of those hospitals, and it is appalling-- both in its existence, and lack of national attention. Perhaps this problem will finally be the last straw to close the Mexican border. I surely hope so.

...Anyone believe this news might finally tighten up our borders ???Why? Nothing else has encouraged this administration to do anything to tighten security on our borders. Quite the contrary they have thrown up obstacles to anyone who does try to apprehend illegals coming across the border. Possible influx of illegals carrying a plague shouldn't get any more attention than terrorists and regular criminals coming across. After all, we do need all of the benefits that these hard working people contribute. And then there is the priceless diversity. I don't look for any serious efforts in border security.

So we should just let'em walk in by the THOUSANDS and the
U.S TAXPAYERS can pick up the bills for their treatments TOO? My taxes are high enough, thanks anyway...
