Hearing postponed on mice at Wal-Mart

A hearing notice said that head pharmacist Teresa Bushnell told officials she had caught four or five mice at the pharmacy.

By JEFF STURGEON THE ROANOKE TIMES

The head pharmacist at the Franklin Road Wal-Mart in Roanoke must explain to state officials why a customer picking up a prescription claimed to see a mouse on the counter.

Seven weeks after the alleged incident last July, inspectors documented six alleged legal violations related to sanitation, security, record keeping and medication labeling, state records show.

Head pharmacist Teresa Bushnell of Roanoke was to attend a hearing on the matters today , but the hearing was rescheduled for May 22.

Bushnell told authorities that mice had been a problem in the pharmacy for several years and that she had caught four or five, said a hearing notice prepared by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Danette Thompson said the pharmacy's issues had all been addressed in accordance with pharmacy board expectations. Thompson said a possible reason for the mice is that the pharmacy is near the pet department. Bushnell declined to comment Thursday.

In other recent cases, the board:

Ordered Joann Bedsaul of Roanoke to complete three hours of ethics training after her conviction on a charge of misdemeanor theft of government property. She was accused of taking medication from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem while employed there in 2001. She was sentenced to probation.

Denied a request by Burl Compton of Roanoke County to have his pharmacist's license reinstated after its suspension last year. The board said he provided medications for himself and family members without a prescription and had been disciplined in 1998 for a prescription error and in 1993 over record keeping issues.

Ordered Mary Kirk of Roanoke County to complete two hours of training on the topic of prescription errors after she admitted labeling a prescription cough suppressant with the wrong patient's name May 17, 2002, at the CVS at 616 19th St. N.W. in Roanoke.

Old Sam would have had a few things to say. They might as well take the "Wal" off and put up a big "K"

Yeah, and the mouse, just having ate a Paxil, would not even be stressed out by that.

Note to the Sue happy liberal world:
Sheesh, talk about a loose connection with reality. The world has mice, get over it already!

Heck, if you want a nice sterile room with no sharp edges or politicaly incorrect bedsheets, try checking into the local funny farms rubber room. Spend your time praying that no mice sneak in looking for a crumb.

Oh, and I got a scary thought for you, Hamburgers come from cows, not little plastic boxes in Macdonalds.

Quick, call a WAaahmbulance...

Then they would really have lawusits on their hands.

Snakes in a store would run all the customers away, except for the wierdos.

I made a mistake.

I typed lawusits.

I meant to type lawsuits.

I apologize for the typo.
