Democratic Plant [Santorum]
Tech Central Station ^ | 04/25/03 | James Pinkerton

So how 'bout that Rick Santorum? At the moment that Republicans are riding high, he finds a way to bring them down. Consider: in April 2003, George W. Bush has united the Republican Party-and more importantly, the country-around the American military victory in Iraq. Yet at the same time, the President faces huge challenges on the home front, most notably, getting his bold $726 billion tax cut enacted. Surely every Republican pulling for Bush 43's re-election remembers the fate of Bush 41-winner in war, loser on the economy. And the key to avoiding that fate is staying true to the neo-Reaganite economic fundamentals of cutting taxes and controlling spending. Bush himself, having emphasized "compassionate conservatism" and "inclusion," has been so effective because he is "on message" about his top strategic and economic priorities.

"Democratic Plant"?????

What???
The issue that Santorum speaks to is not defined by Democrat or Republican labels.

This issue deals with maintaining the integrity of the family and many Democrats will support a strong stance here.

The majority of Americans will support Santorum's views on this matter.

I guess when you're a guy with a cheesy smile and the word "Pink" in your name, you can't let yourself get distracted by real facts in a story relating to sodomy.

Your excerp is irrelevant to the thread title.

You Republicans piddling down your legs give the majority a bad name. Only the most anti-Religious right zealots in the Liberatarian Party and the hard core Democratic Party think this daring to discuss the legal ramifications of the Right To Privacy Myth, ("unearthed" from the Consitution in a 1970's court case--The same decade NAMBLA was founded, but that's totally unrelated, I only throw that out purely to educate) is something to get hysterical about.

The Presidents agenda is right on track, and if you go outside you'll see the sky is indeed not falling.

Now go change your underwear Mike.

”...live-and-let-live social issue

It was once but Bill and Hillary needed votes and tore off the privacy of closet doors. I believe what Santorum was saying was...it is up to the States to either enforce the laws about this or take them off the books once and for all. The rest is spin from the democrats because they have nothing else to rant about except the old tired rhetoric about the things they had a chance for EIGHT years to fix and couldn’t or wouldn’t when they had the opportunity!

Santorum is a stand up guy.

The fact that so much ink and airtime is being devoted to Santorum is proof that the whole matter is, from a Bush-agenda point of view, a waste of time and resources. And from a long-term Republican coalition point of view, it's self-destructive.

Santorum is off-message, and you can bet the Bush administration is not happy about it. That's why they've put a gag order on high-profile Republicans.

It's all so unnecessary; it's not like Santorum can influence the Supreme Court.

Surely you've been here long enough to know what a 'barf alert' is. That is the most stupid, vapid, brainless, intellectually insulting and totally untruthful story I have read since the Clinton era.

I don't see what's the big deal about what Santorum said.

Adultery is so common as to not even raise eyebrows anymore. It's a lot more common than homosexuality.

Bigamy is legal in Islamic countries.

Incest between consenting adults is a no-no, but lots of people do it anyway.

Where do you draw the line?

Where do you draw the line?

I don't do any of those things.

And you know what?

Most other people don't either!

Do you actually need a law to tell you not to have sex with a dog?

People of any political affiliation passing on baseless accusations give all of us a bad name.

Ever hear of tongue-in-cheek? Pinkerton is one of the good guys; not he, nor anyone else would seriously call Sen Santorum a Dem plant.

That's exactly my motivation here. Do I care about Gays? No. Am I part of the vase Religous Right conspiracy? No. I wasn't even interested in the subject til Santorum raised it so eloquently. Its a slippery slope, but whats worse for me is pointing that out is forbidden speach. I think because of precedent being set here (which WAS Ricks original point) that this is a field we should fight and die on with the sophists on this board. We overwhelmed the Pat Buchanon anti war nuts (the Jooz took away their internet connection) and we'll spank these Right To Anything fools as well.

It's a non-issue, for a number of reasons, not the least of which are 1) he didn't say what he is accused of saying, and 2) what he did say happens to be correct.

If the legal foundation for sodomy laws is declared unconstitutional, then the legal foundation for many other laws is destroyed as well.

ROTFL.....that's what I get for reading too fast. Gotta watch those sarcasm columns. Dummies like me might not get it.

LOL! I knew he was usually a good guy, but so is Jonah Goldberg and he has gone pink (or I guess it's purple) on this issue.

"Do you actually need a law to tell you not to have sex with a dog?"

Actually, the case before the SCOTUS apparently goes one step further: like a Constutional right to have sex with a dog as long as it's in the privacy of your own home.

I don't have a Constitutional right to be a heterosexual....why should some other group have a special right to do it like they do on the Discovery Channel with whomever or whatever they please?

Didja hear the polygamists have weighed in to register their feeling of offense?

Polygamists criticize Santorum's comments as defiling their beliefs

April 24, 2003

Salt Lake City-AP -- A Republican senator criticized by gay groups now is also under fire from polygamists.

The criticism comes after Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum lumped together polygamy -- or multiple marriages -- with homosexuality and incest. Santorum said they are all in opposition to a healthy, traditional family.

The head of a Utah church says Santorum was wrong to put polygamy on that list. Owen Allred heads one of Utah's largest polygamist sects and says the practice of one man marrying several women is a moral and religious tradition dating back to Abraham.

He tells The Salt Lake Tribune when Santorum compared the practice with homosexuality or incest, he defiled it as "immoral and dirty."

I read the article. You are FAR too optimistic about his motivations in writing this rant. He's not serious about being a plant, he's making the point that the action was SO devasting that the end result suggests something either so devious or just plain dumb.

He's a good guy, he's also a leg piddler as I wrote before. I don't know which is worse. With that I could make the same point that Pinky is the Democratic Plant.
