IRAN: God Wills It, But The People Don't Want It
April 24, 2003: In Iran, young people are calling American president Bush "the messiah" and wondering when he will invade Iran and free the people from the dictatorship of the Islamic clergy. Meanwhile, the Islamic radicals see the departure of Saddam's forces as an opportunity to spread Islamic rule into Iraq. Most Iraqi Shias apparently don't want an Islamic republic. But neither do most Iranians. Makes no difference. God wills it and things are likely to get ugly before they get any better.
April 23, 2003: The Iranian rebels long based in Iraq, the People's Mujahadeen, say they have reached an understanding with American forces and have been allowed to keep their weapons and Iraq bases, as well as their goals of overthrowing the religious rules of Iran. The US government believes the People's Mujahadeen can muster about 5,000 fighters.
US Marine light armor are now patrolling parts of the Iraq border, checking for hostile (to America) Iranians crossing the border.
The US has warned Iran against sending agents and aid to Iraq in order to try and establish an Islamic republic.

Your making an Assumption in a vacuum. I have always found StrategyPage.com to be very accurate, finding news there before it appears anywhere else. StrategyPage.com's reporting style on the other hand may be too hip for some.

Iran has been around for 2,500 years of history and historically friends with the US before the 23 year old regvolution.
You're the ignorant one.

We should never have supported Shah the way we did. By the way there is no such thing as "friends" in international relations - only mutual self interests between sovreign states.

Well you are more familiar with the source.
I'll defer to your opinion and assume that "God wills it" was sarcasm and Iranian kids really do view Bush as the messiah and there was no alterior motive in writing the peace other than just to report.

Newsflash grandpa! Getting revenge for yesterday seldom fixes tommorrow. So you just sit home on your previously shot off ass and watch the rest of the world ignore you.

Did you really type that without laughing? Why yes, I did. Did you have anything substantive to say, or are you hoping your empty sarcasm will be mistaken for penetrating insight.

Since when is mujahdeen synonymous with Moslem? If Daniel Pipes and Bernard Lewis think Islam is distinct from Radical Islam, who am I to question them.

I got it.
So the additional 20,000 pages just says the Old and New Testament were no good, so don't read.

Allah is not the God of Abraham. Umm help me out here. If Mad Mo or Islam is decended from Ishmael, the bastard son of Abraham, and the Egyptian salve woman (what's her name), then why is the above statement not so? Allah means God in arabic, no?
Granted Issac was the true legitiment heir of Sara and Abraham, but I don't think maternal or paternal lines of offspring changed God.

Instead of thanking me for my service you sling perjoratives. Your debating skills are almost as lacking as your knowledge of history. Run along and wipe your nose, junior. Your immaturity is dripping. Maybe when you grow up you can be a Marine too. ROFLMAO

Pretty funny, the Shiites under the beast of Saddam can hardly wait to set up a repressive Islamic regime. The Iranians living under a repressive Islamic regime can hardly wait to get out from under it.

Yes, but they can choose to throw off those shackles.
We have to live with the Supreme Beings for life.
When they decided their decision would trump anything else on the subject, contradictory to the Constitution, they all should have been impeached. That is outrageous.

The short answer to your question is because the god of Islam bears little to no resemblance to "the God of Abraham." Just because they call it the same thing doesn't make it so.
Example: Heaven. In Islam, heaven is something that is described as basically carnal in nature (virgins and such). In Christianity, there is no real description of what the believer's existence will be like. (apparently because we don't have the wiring to comprehend it)
To: kellynla
Instead of thanking me for my service you sling perjorativesYes, I always do that when confronted by someone who tries to substitute their time on the battlefield for a clue about foriegn policy.
For someone with such daunting debating skills, you sure are establishing a precedent for summarily dismissing critics.
I guess declaring victory and running away is what you think of as a shrewd strategy.

There are a significant (1%) number of non-Muslims in Iran, mostly Jews (yes, a large number of Jewish people in Tehran), but also some Zoroastrians (relics of a time before Islam and even Christianity), Bahais, and Christians.

They are not the same. The God of Abraham...
...from age to age does not change.
...is God in three persons; The Father, The Son and Holy Spirit.
...commands His servants to not judge their neighbor lest they be judged.
...teaches His servants to love their enemies.
...came in person to save His creation from eternal damnation.
...admonishes His followers to not kill their neighbors [without proper authority].
...calls Israel His Chosen People
Allah on the other hand...
...changed his mind from the Old Testament to the Koran since he no longer supports Israel's ancestral promises.
...is singular in nature; there is no trinity.
...commands his servants to judge their neighbors and prejudice their dealings based on personal judgement of their status as a "believer".
...teaches his servants to attack their enemies relentlessly and either exclude them from government and commerce or kill them if they don't convert.
...never came in person. Jesus was just another in a long line of prophets.
...instructs his followers to kill unbelievers and rewards individuals for voluntary martyrdom (something considered murder and suicide in Christendom).
...seeks the destruction of Jews and Christians. Favors the sons of Ishmael--who were rejected by the God of Abraham as not being His Chosen People.
They are most definitely NOT the same God.

The hold on state power by the mullahs in Iran is by no means secure. For them to be trying to influence the Shi'ite
"explosion" in Iran, instigate or support it, or try to export their influence there would be equivalent to America
in 1861, on the eve of Civil War, entertaining the notion that
we should start a space program.
