April 25, 2003 -- IF you want to count the myriad ways in which the ascension of George W. Bush has saved the Republican Party from its own worst tendencies, you need look no farther than the remarks this week of Sen. Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Oh, gawd. John is usually brighter.

FYI: Santorum is the highest ranking CATHOLIC Republican, and as such, the Left, (the seething Left) has painted a bull's eye on his forehead. Buoyed from their success in toppling Lott, the enemy within, has set its sights on Santorum.

True, Santorum's remarks were less than clear, but hardly were they cause for such a shrill media frenzy.

If Rick had to do it again, he would word it a little differently to avoid a misinterpretation, he would probably not have said it to the hostile AP reporter, he would have made some other changes. All of this should have been done in the first place.

This guy is an idiot. The culture war will not end until homosexuals are back in the privacy of their own bedroom, not parading down the street shouting "we're queer, we're here". Americans are sick of coddling these perverts and pedophiles. I guess Poddy boy missed the latest from the "private homosexuals who only care about the privacy of their own bedroom". Now a homosexual Assemblyman has had the California Assembly PASS a law in California for every PUBLIC employer and telling them they must hire a transvestite, or face up to a $150,000 fine. Oh, and I wonder if Poddy heard the California Women of the Year (that's a public proclamation) was a transvestite. I guess I missed when they turned the California State Capitol into a private bedroom. Live and learn.

Our nation's culture war died an unmourned death after 9/11

You wish!

"Such discriminations have grown increasingly difficult in today's America, where tolerance has become the paramount virtue."

Hey John, you sure that "America" stops at the East River?

What did Santorum mean?
Who Cares.
Was he right or wrong?
It really doesn't matter
The simple fact is that he has proven his incompetence to lead, by running his mouth.

Newt Gingrich almost destroyed the Republican Party right after giving it it's great '94 victory, by blathering until one thing or another he said had offended most americans. He was a big part of Clintons '96 reelection.

After years of grass roots work, the Pubbies have it all now.

Newt Gingrich, Trent Lott and Rick Santorum are not bad people.
They don't have bad ideas, but they are incapable of knowing when to shut up.
They are incapable of expressing themselves in a way that won't drive all moderates to the democrat party.
"Raw Meat" polemics are great to hold your base together when you are in the minority, but it will destroy a majority every time.

I think I get it...we're just supposed to shut up and let our culture be destroyed. Is that it?

No, we are just supposed to be subtle.
Bush, and Cheney are sure not keeping their mouths shut, but unlike Gingrich, Lott, and Santorum, they are competent enough to speak without scaring the middle of the road voter into the Democrat party.

We have millions of Republicans who are smart and have the right ideas. That is not enough to make a leader. We need politicians with some leadership skills.
Santorums problem is he speaks badly.
He may make some city a fine mayor, but he just can't hit big league pitching.
