Pipes is exactly right..."Islam is a religion of peace" is an oversimplification. While we must encourage that interpretation of the religion, there are certainly many (but not most) Muslims for whom it is not a religion of peace.
To: ruready4eternity
There are peaceful muslims but hardly any peaceful muslim leaders.
And no, islam is not a peaceful religion. It is a medieval, warlike cult.

Well, I agree, however, if he had said anything else, can you just imagine the flack he would have gotten from the left? I don't think President Bush is uninformed enough to really think they are peaceful.

My Opinion is that they are a deceived people. Their religion was birthed in "war & hate and fear".

lol...It was just yesterday, in a feature on ABC nightly news, that when the US was holding a Cleric for investigation of a murder.
Another Cleric appeared saying there would be a bloodbath if the first Cleric wasn't released.

Bush nominates Pipes, then Pipes slams Bush at the first opportunity? What the hell is that?
Pipes, himself, said on C-SPAN on Tuesday that 90% of Muslims are not radicals.
So where is this weirdo coming from?
Bush is addressing Islam from a political perspective; Pipes is coming it from an academic perspective.
But he's showing signs of being a loose cannon.

what he said last week on Michael Savage was the reason there is no show of support for America from muslim centers is they are 80 to 90 percent run by radicals. Those that maybe peaceful are afraid to talk out for fear.
In my opinion the whole cult is from Satan

What Bush said at the time he said it was good strategery. Somewhat like "keep your enemies close".
For Bush to have come out and painted all of Islam as evil would have been just Dixie Chick dumb.

A scholar nominated to a federal think tank on peace over the objections of Muslim groups said Tuesday that President Bush should not have characterized Islam as a peaceful religion after the Sept. 11 attacks.
Asked by reporters whether he thought Bush should have made the statement, Daniel Pipes said: "No." He said "presidents shouldn't talk about religion" and it was wrong to "make generalizations" about Islam.
"I never say Islam is this or Islam is that," Pipes told journalists attending a seminar at the University of Maryland's Knight Center for Specialized Journalism.
Pipes said sweeping comments about Islam prevent people from fully understanding the threat from militant Muslims, who he said combine religion and politics to justify brutal acts.
That doesn't go quite with the title of this article, does it?

Pipes is exactly right..."
Diplomacy is the art of saying "nice doggie" while finding a big rock.
If Bush was convinced at the time, the "nations that harbor them (terrorists)" statement would never have been made.

My thoughts exactly. How did Pipes "criticize Bush"? He did no such thing. Tempest in a teapot.

What's Pipes trying to do? Confirm what CAIR thinks about him?
He won't last a month with this kind of crap.

Read David Frum's book, The Right Man, and you'll see why Bush did this and why.

Daniel Pipes knows 80% of U.S. imams are radical ergo dangerous.
Pipes said sweeping comments about Islam prevent people from fully understanding the threat from militant Muslims, who he said combine religion and politics to justify brutal acts.
We have been under attack since the fall of Iran by living proof that Islam is not a religion of peace.
Witness the Irani-instigated attempt to turn Iraq into another Muslim dictatorship.
Pipes is very much like Krauthammer in his incisive understanding of what Islam is and is not.
