You are incorrect.
George Bush I didn't want the job, which is why he didn't run a campaign.
Proof of this is how he slid into retirement and stayed (and is staying) out of the public eye. He was with the CIA for many years, and likes the background work (as is demonstrated in his role as Reagen's VP).
He never wanted the top spot, as it doesn't suit him - he isn't the leader type.
The only reason he ran after Reagen was because he was a shoo-in to win.

Hey, don't pick on Redbob and his ilk. They are busy deluding themselves into thinking they are relevent and that they are "sending a message".
By not voting for a Republican because of single issues is only sending a message to the RATS, and that message is..."I IS STUPID...AND I VOTE!"

Just the thought of a possible return of a President similar to Clinton in the White House , keeps me awake a night...no one is going to sleep. BUSH IN 04!!!!!!
To: mabelkitty
"You are incorrect." Let's hope so.
Isn't it a bit niave though to think Bush Sr. sold out the country just so he wouldn't remain in the "limelight?"

A deep sleep will set in shortly.I don't think so.
The average American experienced a fundamental change on 9/11. Most are no longer complacent about our personal security here at home, and that's not going to fade away because we won the war in Iraq quickly.
I seriously don't think any 'pie in the sky' tripe coming out of Democrats is going to trump the general view that Republicans are far stronger with regard to national security, and that this President is seen as particularly strong in this area.
That doesn't mean that any of us should be complacent about the election. I'm going to work as I've never worked before to make sure George W. Bush is re-elected......and, IMO, every conscientious conservative in this country should do the same. I'm just not going to worry about the 'what if's' that I seriously don't believe will happen.

Is it possible that these one-issue folks (especially those who call Bush 41 "Daddy" and use the words "one-termer for sure" with regard to his son) are really
hoping that President Bush loses, so their lives will be even more miserable, and they have more to complain about??
Sometimes I wonder if they actually prefer to have a Dim in office rather than a Conservative who doesn't share their pet issue.

George W. Bush has not as yet made a statement like: "Read my lips-NO NEW TAXES!" and allowed the crafty liberal democrat machine, brow beat him appearing to be unable to read his own lips. George W. is being hammered by both the Liberal Dems. and RINO's on his tax cuts intended to fire up the economy though. He asked for 750 billion and the obstructionists in the Senate are lock step on no more thae 350 billion, even though GW has offered to compromise for 550 billion. He should uncompromisingly demand the 750 billion and stay with it to the end.
750 billion will get the economy rolling, 550 billion is iffy, and 350 billion that the DemoRino coalition are refusing to budge from, will not get the job done. Not getting the job done is those jokers scheme. THey can pretend that giving Bush 350 billion, is just the same as giving him the 750 billion (sort of) and is proof positive that his solution was just a risky scheme, as they, the DemoRinocrat's coalition had said all along.
Cutting taxes to stimulate the economy, is like anything else involving finances. You can't buy a new fully equipped Lincoln town car, for the price of an Escort, with only the basics.

You know of course that Gephardt's platform is going to be to convert the $750B from tax cuts to social-mediacal reform (free medical care).
They want to convert the tax cuts back into a socialized (free) medical program.

(1) We're coming out of a recession not going into one. We were coming out of one in 1992 also.
(2) The only third party candidate with any following is Ralph Nader.
He wont be running this time around.
To: Happy2BMe
I saw old Geppy saying that. Looks like the Libs. really do believe they have been losing because they have denied their ultra liberalism, instead of embracing it. I believe thay are wrong, but time will tell.

I believe the media artificially pumped Carters numbers before the election as well.

I'm sure they did.
I don't remember Carter's numbers, but the American people in 1980 were not especially pleased by a President who only talked about 'malaise' at home, and weakness abroad, and I'm sure the media tried to hide his real lack of popularity.

You're right Clinton would never have won without Perot's help. There is a very good lesson to be learned from that loss and that is to solidify the party base, no matter how painful.
That lesson is the major reason that the Democrats have moved so far to the left. If they tried to stay in the middle, Nader would have pulled away the most vocal half of their base and they would have been in a lose/lose situation. I hope they still are in a lose/lose situation.
