You're right Clinton would never have won without Perot's help. There is a very good lesson to be learned from that loss and that is to solidify the party base, no matter how painful.
That lesson is the major reason that the Democrats have moved so far to the left. If they tried to stay in the middle, Nader would have pulled away the most vocal half of their base and they would have been in a lose/lose situation. I hope they still are in a lose/lose situation.

Wait a minute....... if the Dims solidify 'their base' they become too liberal and lose the election (which is precisely what they seem to be doing now).
Depending on what you are calling the President's 'base'......and what some others on this forum call his base......it would stand to reason that by appealing to them, he would move too far right to win a national election, and we'd be in big trouble.
I guess I'm confused as to what you consider to be the 'good lesson' to be learned from the mess that Perot caused in the '92 election. Do you mind clarifying it?
