PYONGYANG, North Korea -- North Korea is sticking by its demand that Washington end its "hostile policy" towards Pyongyang, saying that in the present situation war may break out at "any moment" on the Korean Pensinsula.
The stark warning came as U.S. and North Korean officials began a second day of talks in Beijing aimed at easing months of tensions over the North's alleged nuclear weapons program.

Those folks are out of it, all the time. THEY KNOW what would happen to them if they do something stupid, but then again, stupid is as stupid does.

yes, I don't underestimate their foolish bravado ... this is one I definitely don't want to see get started ... it will be big and bad ...
More than a million troops face each other across the DMZ dividing North and South Korea.

Are these talks being conducted by the U.S. State Dept.?
Boy that should make any American nervous.
Our Dept. of State is just plain terrible, and I for one have less confidence in the state dept then in the democratic national committee.

I guess this paving the way for productive talks..a new kind of diplomacy.

Threaten to strike your home cities, demand that you surrender, pay extortion money and stab your allies in the back. Nope, not new, Ask Israel about Oslo.

I pray Israel may live in peace. I hope a solution may be found.I'm wary.

'Violation of sovereignty' The talks taking place in Beijing -- scheduled to continue until Friday -- are the first official meetings between the U.S. and North Korea since last October when Washington said North Korean officials admitted to them that they were pursuing an active nuclear weapons program. North Korea, for its part, denies that any such admission took place and says the U.S. is using its accusation as an excuse to justify military action.
Baghdad Bob must have twin in North Korea... the N Koreans have been threatening everyone openly with the idea of enriching uranium ever since they admitted it the first time. If threatening to use your nuclear program if you don't get appeased isn't admission enough that you have a nuke program, I don't know what is...

In such a situation it said the "master key" to any progress in the talks was for Washington to make a "bold switchover" in its policy toward the North. The funny ways diplomats talk.
"master key" = "blackmail"
"bold switchover" = "appeasement"

I thought that the left's position was that we should have gone to war against North Korea instead of Iraq (because of the nuclear threat). Don't tell me that they are getting nervous now that we just might.
It's like the CNN journalists who ran checkpoints in Iraq and returned fire at enemy soldiers. When a group got captured, their translator persuaded the elders to release the journalists because he threatened American military retribution on the town if they didn't.
They write checks their butt can't cash and get us tagged as the Ugly American.

Jung Il is obviously frightened beyond measure by the spectacle in Iraq. He is definitely watching his back now at the sight of saddams head laid on his bed in the dark of the night. Jung Il is recognizing that America will not be trifled with, hopefully he understands the implications of the words 'rapid deployment'.
One thing Im certain that Jung Il DOES recognize is the notion that it could be HIS HEAD laying at the foot of Assads Bed!

This is probably only more sabre-rattling by their pea-brained despot and the people, real and imagined, who are pulling his strings.

In its statement carried Thursday on the North Korean state news agency, Pyongyang said that the U.S.-led war in Iraq has shown that the only way for a country to protect itself was to have a powerful deterrent. It's like listening to Bill Clinton - every now and then a true statement emerges.

How do you square Jung's fear with his saber rattling, sword man? Doesn't make a-sense.

Pyongyang said that the U.S.-led war in Iraq has shown that the only way for a country to protect itself was to have a powerful deterrent.Yes, and the most effectively powerful deterrent is a policy of non-aggression. We are capable of overcoming any force-based "deterrent" any country in the world can supply.
