OH, MY --- SARANDON DIDN'T WANT DR. LAURA TO HAVE A SHOW

Doesn't the left think it is the defender of free speech? Aren't Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins having a whine-in out in public because some fans have turned on them and will no longer give them any of their money? Wouldn't we be surprised if Sarandon helped join a boycott to keep someone off television? No, we wouldn't. The left only believes in free speech if it is their own free speech.

Sarandon joins Dr. Laura battle
Actor and gay rights supporter Susan Sarandon has added her voice to the campaign to keep radio talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger off TV, according to syndicated columnist Liz Smith, who says Sarandon posted this message on the StopDr.Laura.com Web site: Im totally against wasting the airwaves giving visibility to a person who is clearly in dire need of compassion, education, and a good shrink herself!

History of the StopDrLaura.Com Protest
It's amazing that what started as a bit of bad publicity for Paramount has turned into a virtual torrent. In addition to all the bad press in Time, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, the LA Times, the NY Times, etc., - and in addition to the 7m hits our Web site has gotten, as well as the almost 15,000 emails that have been sent to Paramount via our site - look at how much worse things have gotten for Paramount in the last week alone.
1. Dr. Laura recanted on her apology.
2. GLAAD broke off talks with Paramount and called for the show to be dropped.
3. HateWatch.org joined our protest, calling Dr. Laura's words "bigotry."
4. Susan Sarandon endorsed our Web site.
5. Far-right-winger Brent Bozzell has said that our protests are not infringing on Dr. Laura's rights to free speech (i.e., defending us).
6. The ACLU agreed that our protests are not impinging on Dr. Laura's rights.
7. Big-time Paramount exec David Lee, the Executive Producer of 'Frasier', has agreed to speak at the protest tomorrow. Lee has been quite outspoken about Paramount needing to drop Dr. Laura.
8. We ran a full-page ad in Variety last Thursday announcing the protest.
9. GLAAD, HRC, PFLAG, MCC, and other big gay poo-bahs will now be at the protest as well.
10. The head of entertainment for all of NBC implicitly criticized Paramount in yesterday's LA Times.

Didn't these two, Robbins & Sarandon also try to force Elizabeth Hurley out of movies because Hurley (a Brit) filmed a commercial when some American film union was out on strike?

From abcnews:
Hurleys Career in Jeopardy
Actress Violated SAG Strike, Angers Industry
Oct. 10 Sometimes, saying youre sorry just doesnt cut it.
"Model-actress Elizabeth Hurley, who appears in the upcoming comedy Bedazzled, may never work in Hollywood again.
The actress may be expelled from the Screen Actors Guild for crossing picket lines to film an ad for Estée Lauder, the cosmetics company she represents, according to the New York Post.
Very Supportive of Her Union
Hurley, 35, has apologized profusely for shooting a non-union commercial in New York City during the five-month-long TV commercial actors strike.
She was completely unaware of the situation because she doesnt live in this country, Hurley agent Tracey Jacobs explained to The Associated Press in July. And she is extremely apologetic about it. Had she known it was struck work, she would have never done it. She is very supportive of her union.
Union reps tell the Post that Hurley will probably be ejected, or at least heavily fined, despite her claims of ignorance. Even if shes not booted, some of her peers may still burn her for betraying SAG. At a New York rally Friday, outspoken actor Tim Robbins shouted, Were bringing [Hurley] to trial after this is over. She wont get away with it.
Actors have been striking since May 1 in order to force cable advertisers to pay residuals to actors in commercials, rather than utilizing a flat-rate pay scale. This is a strike about working-class actors; this is not a strike about celebrity actors, Robbins added. He said the average annual earnings of actors who appeared in commercials was a paltry $5,000.
Talks between advertising officials and SAG and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists will resume Oct. 19 in New York."

Well I guess this test works with fewer and fewer people as I get older, there has long been a simple test with these lefties on secondary boycotts:
1. Did they support the grape, etc boycott?
2. Did they support various civil rights secondary boycotts.
If they did and they all did if they were old enough, then the issue is not whether or not secondary boycotts against Sarandon, Robbins, the Dixie Chicks etc are all right, we already know they believe in secondary boycotts. So it is a matter of the politics.
BTW, another more up to date test is:
3. Do they support the boycott of South Carolina or whatever other Southern states have the confederate flag in their state flag or did not ratify the Equal Rights Ammendment.
Again if so, they like secondary boycotts and like Robbins and Sarandon are only offended because the other side is secondarily boycotting them.

Of course, they always support boycotts for their own causes. Free speech works only one way for them.

Thought I'd throw this out. The Dixie Chicks are going on national tv (forget who the interviewer is - Babs, 20/20...don't care) in a few days to whine about their fans turning on them. Whaaaaaa!
