Why was it responsibility of the US military to protect and defend the heritage of the Iraqi people? After WWII, the Japanese people never looted their own treasures, neither did the Germans. I would imagine that the US military had enough on their plate securing the future of the Iraqi people. The past should have been protected by the Iraqi people themselves.

"The past should have been protected by the Iraqi people themselves."

I couldn't agree more. And you'll notice those who are screaming the loudest about the U.S. not "protecting" the museum pieces are by and large the same Nanny-Staters who are calling for complete government control of schools by leftist idealogues and social extremists. The fact that the Iragis themselves trashed the museum speaks volumes about the Iraqis, not about us. You were right to point out that neither the Japanese nor the Germans trashed their own museums. In fact, I can't think of a defeated group in hisroty that has trashed their own museums and recorded past. Looks like the Iraqis are unique on this account. Or maybe it's an Arab thing. Maybe they are so ashamed of Arab ineptitude in all things martial, not to mention cultural, that they wanted to destroy any reminder of it.

Good point. But the media has to find something negative to focus on, dont they? Everything has gone well to date so there has been nothing negative to report, nothing to smear the Administration with. The first sign of trouble, the Jennings-Rather wannabes are all over it..

Supposedly we invited France, Germany, Hollywood, and the DNC to send in their stormtroopers to defend these sites, but they were AWOL.

Where were the human shields? They should have been protecting the Museum.

Not the heritage of the Iraqi people, you donkey, the heritage of the civilized world!

For your edification, it is highly questionable for you to even refer to an Iraqi heritage since Iraq is, historically speaking, a practically "brand new" country, invented by the Brits at the end of WWI.

Also for your edification, that's when they were in charge of world reorganization instead of just Junior Asst to GWB.

They pretty much layed out a blueprint for future conflict if not disaster. But I'm sure George will do a much better job. (/sarcasm).
