When I was a child I was very ill for a time.

Later, when I was healthy again, I was treated as if I were disabled. I was privilaged to be a part of a program that was designed to cater to handicapped children.

I was not handicapped, unless you consider being poor a handicap.

I spent many hours in my youth with truly handicapped children, and not a few of them were Downes Syndrome victims.

They are not euphemisms.

You might as well have called a viable fetus "fetal tissue."

I do not know where you are coming from, but I do know that you project an air of cynicism and great coldness in that one simple post that just caught my attention.

Those children are not euphemisms.

They are indeed very special.

Pardon me for using politically correct speech.

Pardon me for using politically correct speech

I would never consider calling a Downs Syndrome child "special" politically correct, because it is the truth.

Anyone who has never spent time with these little angels, doesn't know what they are talking about. They are called special because they are special. They generally are the happiest children, and adults I have ever met. I truly think God sends them to earth to make the rest of the world marvel at their goodness.

For their parents all I can say is Thank You. I know through personal experience just how hard it is to raise a Down Syndrome child, (not my own, but friends) and I not only see the difficulty but the sheer joy.

I am not going to make a generalization that could hurt others out there, but when I think of this being one of the reasons many choose to have amniocentisis to "rule out" this disorder in pregnancy, I shudder to think how many of these angels are aborted every year.

To all of you that shared your personal experiences on this thread, I want to say Thank You, You have opened alot of eyes today, and hopefully a few hearts.

God Bless You All.
