Those guys did a great job. I hope they are able to convey everything they experienced to their colleagues particularly the character of our soldiers and the sacrifices they made. I have found a new respect for journalists like them. They subjected themselves to the same perils as our troops to accurately portray the battlefield. There was a huge difference between the "embeds" and the knuckleheads asking questions at the Centcom briefings. I hope the "embeds" rise to the top of news organizations and change the flavor of reporting in the future.

I hope you didn't mean to include Whorealdo and Ted Koppel.

Jennifer Eccleston

If I close my eyes and listen to Eccleston talk, she sounds just like Edna of "Tex and Edna Boyle's Organ Emporium" commercials on SCTV (Andrea Martin played Edna).

Whorealdo is an embarrassment, the "what me worry" refuge from mad magazine is a idiot of the first water.

Some never-left-DC reporter was quoting/referencing a NYT (problem right there already) story which reported "senior defense department officials" had stated that the US was planning to maintain four military bases long term in Iraq and even had the locales named. The reporter in the news conference was not the author of that story, but wanted to ask Rummy a question about it.

Rummy blew a gasket and said 'let me get this off my chest' -- then went off on how HE was a senior defense department official and no one asked him and also that he had not had those discussions with anyone else who was senior. He then rattled off several names and siad none of them had been asked, and none of them had discussed such ideas. He then slammed the sources as saying something like 'they must not be very senior or credible and must have really bad judgement' etc., etc. Rummy then gave the floor back to a reporter who said " well I think you're "senior", sir (refrerring to his status in the DOD, not his age.

It was great TV and a good news conference. I wish the PRez could act that way.

Being of the female persuasion my admiration of Eccleston is a little different than yours.

Today she was reporting from Baghdad during a firefight and was so calm and collected it was amazing. David Asman was more worried that she was. At first she said the shooting was about 100 yards away...no problem. Then it got closer..and closer. Finally it got too close and she ducked and said "we need to turn the camera lights off."

David Asman was thoroughly impressed. So was I.

yeah -- that's actually how he got warmed up, by stating something like 'that article gets the thumbsucker of the year award'.

Not sure I know what that means really, but Rummy does, and it wasn't meant to be nice.

I'll bet they planted the info to see who leaked, and who took the bait.

"Mrs. irish guard always gives me grief when Laurie Dhue or Jennifer Eccleston comes on"

I just wish Eccleston would stand still. The way she is always bouncing around when she talks looks like she forgot to go pee before her stand-up.

If Dhue and Eccleston combined their individual IQs they still would only be half that of Linda Vester. Vester is a human being, the other two are deparment store maniquins.

Besides, I just can't trust or respect a "journalist" who's prior background includes CNN, NPR, and the BBC as does Eccleston.
