I guess the thing I'm wondering is, what is wrong with the electorate in California, that they can think this guy's worthy of a second term in November 2002, then want him run out of office in April 2003.

Is the same group of California voters sponsoring the recall petition the same group who refused to vote for
Riordan, saying that a democrat was a better choice than a moderate Republican?

Voters thought Gray Davis was worthy of a second term because they believed him when he said that he had the budget under control.

When, just weeks after the election, he admitted that the state faced a $34 billion budget deficit. That only proved that Davis knew all along, but lied through his teeth to the voters -- just to get re-elected.

If voters had known the truth, he never would have been re-elected. They expect shading of the truth from politicians, not bold faced lies.

That's why we have the recall in the first place -- to get rid of politicians who put special interests ahead of the people. Davis is at least as corrupt as the politicians beholden to the railroads when voters won the rights of referendum, initiative and recall.
