I decided to test this whole Photo-oxidation theory for myself. I just happened to have a photo-copier in my home office so I dropped my drawers and...

Note for the American Medical Establishment Is A Vast Conspiracy To Deny Proper HealthCare And Make Big Bucks theorists: A friend of mine was also into this whole whacko belief system. Had a bad car accident and got 3rd degree burns on her foot. Decided to treat it herself (over BIG objections from the MD’s) with Noni Juice (her current FadOfTheMoment). All her Noni-Friends kept telling her it was looking better. She thought it was feeling better. She’s now looking at amputation of parts of her foot.

Relying on the "they reported they felt better after their treatment" kinds of self reporting is a recipe for disaster. You’ll just have to trust me on this one but: nearly any health care professional, including the EvilAMA would rejoice at discovering any new treatments that had any chance of helping someone. The problem is that they want to see actual proof that the treatment does something good. It doesn’t matter if it’s burying a strangled toad under the light of a full moon kind of craziness, all you have to do is demonstrate in a controlled study that it’ll help and lots of Docs will be happy to use it.

i agree with you that there are quacks & pseudo-science among alternative medicine. I have decried against much of these so called cures. I have told people Noni Juice has very little evidence. Hardly any study behind it. It's mostly testimonials. Many stuffs in Health food store, I would not waste money on.

As to evidence that it works, if I may refer to an earlier post by me on Chemotherapy. It's one of the most flawed treatment with little evidence it works on most cancers, yet why does the science-conscious medical establishment still tout it. Chemo probably kill more people than cancers, some doctors will tell you. They did a survey on the cancer doctors & most of them admit they would not use Chemo IF they had cancers! What does that tell you about their ethics & their "proof.

Do "Approved" Cancer Treatments Work? A depressing picture of "approved" treatments against cancer (surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy) is revealed in an evaluation made by the AMerican Cancer Society. In their annual publication of Cancer Facts and Figures for 1996, they show virtually no improvement among the most frequently appearing tumors in the last 60 years, with the exception of cancer of the stomach and cervix. In 1969, Dr. Hardin Jones of the U.C. Berkeley reported that patients not subjected to the aggressive conventional therapies had a longer life expectancy, occasionally up to four times as long. In 1986, Dr. Bailar III and Ealine Smith reported that patients with lung cancer who were not treated have a longer life expectancy and enjoy a better quality of life than those who receive treatment. In 1988, Dr. Abel reported that . . . patients suffering from pancreatic cancer . . . who received the placebo treatment instead of the real treatment lived longer and better. (That's your double blind study!)Where is the proof? Why are are doctors still pushing them? Please explain. Nuff said

Most alternative treatments should not be used in cases like this. They can be valuable in cases that are not life-and limb threatening, however.
