They'd be so happy and free living in poverty, squalor and violence.

The former member of an anti-government militia is wanted on felony charges after biting a state trooper and trying to grab his gun during a traffic stop. He now faces weapons charges, too. I'd like to see the evidence. Physical evidence, not paper statements.

I had forgotten about this situation.
The sheriff's just decided he's going to wait this guy out. Friends bring food in, so I guess this could go on for another three years.
Hell, Chuck Norris went out there when he was in Ft. Worth doing "Walker, Texas Ranger" two years ago to try to talk this old blatherskite out. He's as good as in prison.

I'd like to see the evidence. Physical evidence, not paper statements. The guy who was with him can testify; he's doing time in the state pen for a similar offense.

I'd like to see the evidence. Physical evidence, not paper statements.Somewhere, in the great State of Tejas there is a trooper with a set of teeth marks on a body part that matchs the defendant ...

"They're prisoners on their own property." I'm missing something. There's a problem here? I say let them self jail themselves as long as they want.

I say let them self jail themselves as long as they want. That's exactly what the sheriff thinks. I suppose at some point the county taxpayers might get tired of having to pay the salary of a full-time deputy sitting in his car outside this guy's gate.

That's exactly what I'm hoping to see. But I won't hold my breath.

I know these communities of Gun Barrel City and Mabank... I have a relative in that area whom we visit often. Anyone know where exactly this siege is taking place so I can avoid the crossfire?

Most of this article is a re-hash of the government version of what happened in Waco. There is plenty of evidence to the contrary.
To: _Jim
YOU tell US what it's safe to be 'riding around in' Well if safety is the goal, then perhaps they should not have created the situation in the first place. I followed the story very closely while it was happening. The creation of the seige situation itself was the problem. No seige - no need to ride around in tanks.

Three years? Waste of damn time and money. Time for Darwin's broom to sweep that goofy little compound, and to find a sheriff with a pair. You can't enable armed standoffs, because they spread like cancer among the goofy, and while I completely understand some reluctance on the part of the sheriff if he knows these people, 3 years is too much. Yet one more example of Counselor Palpatators agit-prop agenda.
On a side note, wonder if they cut off their internet access in there, and what this guys FReeper handle is?
What is it with your unending snide, derogatory 'asides' about freepers, palp? Maybe you should go fishin again to rid yourself of your hate for FR.

His prophecy of a final battle against the government was self-fulfilling. "The Davidians started the fires," said Mr. Van Zandt. "The only question is, did the government put them in a position to facilitate that, and the answer is probably yes."
I agree. They unwittingly brought Armageddon to someone who was waiting for it. There should have been a less confrontational way of handling the situation. But then they wouldn't have been able to try out all that cool stuff. The BATF screwed up and then the FBI compounded the mistake.
This situation at Gun Barrel is more similar to the Ruby Ridge standoff than Waco. At least they appear to be handling it in a more responsible way. There's no way bringing in someone for resisting arrest can be worth the slaughter of a family.

I have no idea, I haven't read about this odd situation. It could be trumped up nonsense or maybe the guy's a loon. I've got to respect the Sheriffs patience though.
You know I have read it some time ago, didn't realize it was still ongoing - may have to try and find out. I am with you on the Sheriff's patience. Unless we are talking about a murderer here, I can't imagine anything worth endangering life.

WHICH aspect - there are several stages (the initial raid, the standoff, the 'negotiations', the insertion of tear gas) and several different 'groups' responsible at each 'stage' to discuss ..All of the above.
