No merit. First, these managers are what got the company where it is today (purchase of TWA, e.g.), why would they perform better in the future? Second, a retention bonus is a chip you put on the table when negotiating with a new employer and is used to moose up the size of the hoped for "sign on" bonus.

AA management is marginal and has been since Crandall left. Carty is a Canadian who has jumped ship before for a better deal. Some of the senior techies might find a better job, but the airline "managers" are going nowhere. But, they can always be relied upon to take care of themselves, FIRST. Has anyone mentioned the company provided cars that 100s of managers get?

The sad part, of course, is the stupidity of the flight attendants. They will collectively stomp their little foot, rescind their give-backs, and whine and bitch as bankruptcy takes more from them and puts a lot more of them on the ground. AA will immediately cut all cabin crews to the minimums. I can tell you from experience, flight attendants hate working a standard 40 hour week in one location and will, for the most part, find it tough to get alternative employment.

Ain't it the truth. Shooting at the helmsman just puts more holes in the boat and then everyone drowns. Does anyone really believe the top people won't ALWAYS have it better than the workers?

The flight attendants and other employees should recognize the flying public has drastically reduced flying. That's the real problem. American airlines employees must think people MUST fly. Not true.

It's not too surprising how turning airports into Gestapo checkpoints discourages a pleasant flying experience. Many people have simply thrown in the towel on flying. They don't have confidence flying is any safer and it's a lot more hassle. You commit a federal crime by forgetting a pocket knife you've always carried is in your pocket. Who needs it?

What else can you share about the employee car perk? I'd heard something about this, as well as, some employee parking thing for all the powerful at DFW that adds up to a significant amount. And I mean...their offices aren't at the airport.

In times of hardship, the leadership must cut all the niceties before the necessary...ie, jobs.
