The Paranoia of the Hollywood Left

Tim Robbins’ histrionic speech at the National Press Club on Tuesday, was further evidence of the paranoid bubble-world the Hollywood left inhabits. It all began when he and his “partner,” actress Susan Sarandon, were invited to speak at baseball’s Hall of Fame awards, which were to coincide with the 15th anniversary of “Bull Durham,” a film in which they both starred. Their invitations were recently revoked by the hall’s president, Dale Petroskey, who didn’t feel like providing yet another platform for their hugely unpopular anti-war statements. Ever since, they--and a host of other slighted celebrity pundits--are carrying on as if they’re going to be rounded up and sent to the gulag any minute.

The reality is that after months of subjecting the country to their political viewpoints, these pampered celebrities are discovering that there are consequences to their actions. But the repercussions have less in common with the so-called McCarthyism that Robbins and others allege, and more to do with economics. Consumers are speaking with their pocketbooks, something they have every right to do. After all, it’s not as if there’s a constitutional requirement to go to the movies. Yet, Robbins and company would have us believe that somehow we are obligated to support their work.

Despite the public’s conviction that many actors have abused their celebrity status by using it to broadcast their politics, no one has ever denied their right to do so. But to hear the anti-war actors’ version, you would think that Big Brother had arrived in Hollywood. As Tim Robbins put it during his Press Club speech, “a chill wind is blowing in this nation...every day the airwaves are filled with warnings, veiled and unveiled threats, spewed invective and hatred directed at any voice of dissent.” The very fact that Robbins and his cohorts continue to make these statements, negates their claims of suppression. Plus, Robbins’ less than subtle reference to Talk Radio, whose hosts have largely been critical of his ilk, ignores the fact that millions of people listen to these shows because they agree with them. But the Hollywood Left are so out of touch with reality that they actually think they country is on their side.

It’s doubtful that these aggrieved celebrities are going to find much sympathy from the masses on this one. First of all, they used up any goodwill that may have previously emanated in their direction, by imposing their politics ad nauseam on a fed-up citizenry. And secondly, it’s difficult to feel sorry for a bunch of spoiled, wealthy, elitists who have finally collided with reality, only to discover that it’s rather unpleasant at times. Get over it, folks! Not everyone is going to agree with you, nor are they going to like you. That’s the nature of living in a democracy, something the Hollywood left seems to have forgotten.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances, nor shall there be any consequences for that speech for Hollyweird idiots.

So it was written...

Pampered people surrounded by sycophants that continually tell them how wonderful they are, are ill prepared to cope when the music stops. They tend to lash out.

Yet these same ding-a-lings have no problem in practicing their own form of McCarthyism and trying to silence anyone in the acting guild who has conservative thoughts and feelings.

Two-Faced bums!

Well boo-frickin'-hoo, Tim Robbins and his skiff are finding out the hard way that they are accountable for what they say. And they thought that accountability was only for the little people. Hah!

If a person doesn't like what Timmy has to say and decides to forgo his next movie release, he moans that it's bad for freedom and it's not what America is about. Actually, that's exactly what America is about.

These entertainment celebrities are unbelievable. They publicly trash their fan base, then have the nerve to act surprised when there's a backlash. They're pure idiots. It just goes to show that anybody can be manufactured into a celebrity. /rant off

Remember when the Hollyweirders sat on there hands when the 85 year old Elia Kazan was honored at the Academy Awards several years ago because he testified against communists in Hollywood in the 50's? What sickening hypocrites. And when I see these disgusting fools talk about Castro as if he were God I get even more sick. They are so out of touch with reality it is sad.

Miss Sarandon:

As far as I'm concerned, you are the enemy. You want to create a Socialist, Communistic state in my country. You wish to make the idea of laissez-faire government a forgotten memory. You wish to create a climate of not only abortion-on-demand, but *taxpayer-funded* abortion-on-demand. You wish to make us vulnerable to expansionist enemies that seek to destroy us. You wish to make it impossible for my religion and my Church to spread its message. You wish to force my children (should I have any) subject to your brand of Marxist indoctrination. You wish to weaken the sovereignty of my native country, the United States of America, a country to which my ancestors fled after fleeing the horrors of totalitarian regimes. You wish to weaken the ability of my country to protect and promote freedom in the world. You wish to force your political beliefs on the rest of us. You wish to scare our educational institutions and employers into sanctioning people who disagree with you.

For all of these things, I consider you a mortal enemy to myself, my freedoms, and the freedom the United States of America represents. I will *never* support you.

This guy can say this with a straight face when he threatens to kick a reporter's backside just because he wrote a story Robbins disagreed with. So much for the First Amendment when Robbins finds himself on the other side of it.
