Always suspected Scott Peterson had $10,000 cash when arrested

Scott Peterson was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail late Friday, after being transported from San Diego, where he was arrested near a golf course. NBC News reported that when he was arrested, Peterson had $10,000 in cash and his brother's identification.

Modesto police spokesman Lt. Doug Ridenour declined to comment on the NBC report.

Peterson is expected to be arraigned Monday or Tuesday. And District Attorney Jim Brazelton said he hasn't decided whether he will seek the death penalty.

Scott Peterson would seem an unlikely suspect.

I sure hope the Stanislaus DA doesn't wuss out on the murder charges?

Thanks for your post Ray. I agree,the stroke of good luck involved in Laci and Connor washing up in the area of Scott's alibi was the direct connective evidence LE needed,for an arrest. I also am hopeful, along with all the circumstantial evidence like: unacounted for concrete anchors,the surprise boat for Laci,blood in the vehicle, missing umbrellas,Amber & her stories of a dead wife and Scott's business trip till January,the possiblility of blood and stomach fluids on the mop. I am optimistic LE will be able to get a double homicide conviction and death penalty.

April 20, 2003 -- Just 10 days before his pregnant wife vanished, Scott Peterson embraced his new gal pal in front of a Christmas tree for a snapshot that eerily resembles a widely distributed holiday photo of him and Laci. And to this day, Peterson, 30, continues to speak with massage therapist Amber Frey, 28, whom he had initially told he was single, The Post has learned.

The Dec. 14 photo, taken at the Copper River Country Club Christmas party in Frey's Fresno hometown, shows a beaming Peterson lovingly clasping hands with the single mom with whom he has admitted having an affair.

Peterson and the blond beauty met Nov. 20 and he told her he was single.

But a few weeks later, Peterson broke down during one of their intimate moments, telling Frey he had "lost" his wife the previous Christmas, according to sources close to Frey's family.

"He got really emotional with Amber," said private investigator Bill Garcia, who has been working on the case in close contact with Frey's family.

"He cried about how he had lost his wife."

Even after Laci's disappearance, Peterson has continued speaking with Frey - speaking to her as recently as two weeks ago, according to Garcia and Frey's sister, Ava.

"I do know he has contacted her quite a bit and the police are aware of it," said Ava.

Frey's father, Ron, said he had a haunting feeling when he saw the infamous Christmas photo of Peterson and Laci, on TV.

"When I saw Scott and Laci Peterson on the TV, I kept thinking, Where have I seen that before?" said Ron. "Well, I had seen the same identical picture of Scott and my daughter, Amber."

As tragic as it is, this event, like most other crimes, teaches us a lot about humans, especially their darker side. That's the basis of our interest in criminal behavior. You have every right to be uninterested in all this, and we have every right to be extremely interested.

Oh, he's got a good atty already, in fact, I heard yesterday that he's got one of the best criminal attys in North Cal. It sounded to me like it was not the same guy as the one who'd been mentioned in the past, McAllister, but a new one, though I tuned in too late to catch the name. Supposed to be a Stanford grad, with about 30 years of defense work.

So Scotty doesn't need a lawyer, but he needs a haircut!

And by the way, saying that you'd need us to delete and avoid all threads on crime news is not really a right you have.

When did I say that? Crime is a topic that needs an awful amount of discussion, but this single crime - and can you acknowledge that I agree that it is horrible - and the associated thread has occupied a lot of time and energy. Yes, it is good to vent and rend and yes it's cathartic, but while we're here why not discuss the slaying of a woman in front of several children by her ex-husband in Niceville, FL?
