Brrrr! Susan Sarandon gets used to being frozen out

If you don't like Susan Sarandon, maybe you will be cheered to learn she'll be stranded in Antarctica with cancer this weekend on CBS.

If you do like Sarandon, the good news is she gives a solid performance that elevates CBS' "Ice Bound: A Woman's Survival at the South Pole," an otherwise ordinary *** depiction of Dr. Jerri Nielsen's well-documented battle with breast cancer, isolation and the elements that's set for 8 p.m. Sunday on WBBM-Channel 2.

So it goes for Sarandon, an increasingly polarizing figure of late, left out in the cold by some for her anti-war stances.

First, the United Way of Tampa, Fla., canceled a fund-raising appearance she was to make last month, ostensibly because she flashed the peace sign as a presenter at the Academy Awards. The gesture upset some because they considered it a breach of decorum and upset others because it wasn't strident enough.

Then last week--shortly after Sarandon chatted with reporters on a conference call to promote "Ice Bound" that, as fate would have it, was conducted just hours after U.S. Marines helped topple that Baghdad statue of Saddam Hussein before the TV cameras--news broke that baseball's Hall of Fame had canceled a screening of "Bull Durham" that she and common-law husband/co-star Tim Robbins were to attend because of their tendency to speak out on political issues.

"We're issuing a statement today because there was supposed to be--well, I don't know--I can't go into this right now," Sarandon said cryptically at the time. "But, yes, there have been other things [besides the United Way incident] and more will come out today.

"Then there have been calls to boycott movies and things, which I think is just damaging in that it frightens other people. I don't ever remember being in a climate where people have been so afraid to even have a conversation about some of these issues, that people would be irate to have a healthy debate."

While maintaining she's "not a fan of Saddam Hussein," Sarandon reiterated that "to go to war because you're impatient is not a good reason" and warned that "the peace is not established. The invasion is over but those kids are going to be there for many years, and I guess we're focusing on Iran and Syria.

"The thing I want to focus on now," she said, "is making sure that the veterans of these wars and of wars past do not suffer from these budget cuts. ... Billions of dollars [are] being cut from this budget for veterans' health and benefits."

Ol' Susie "Sinead O'Sarandon" had better concern herself with suffering from movie goers making cuts from their theatre attendance, because those dollars saved to their wallets are directly proportionate to the ones Ol' Susie ain't gettin'!

"The woman said the part Serandan is playing is not a true depiction of the woman who was standed and had to peform medical procedures on herself."

Maybe Sarandan needs to try a self-inflicted frontal lobotomy. It couldn't be much worse...hehehe

Quit indirectly defending Sarandon....Nobody cares about what goes on behind the scenes of a motion picture the fact of the matter is that sarandon is left-wing scum who should be held accountable for her anti-American comments.
