PARIS -An American backlash against French products and businesses has started to bite, dashing hopes here that appeals in the United States to punish France economically for opposing the war in Iraq would go unheeded.

American importers of French wine are reporting sharp drops in sales in the past two months.

"We have seen French wines decreasing," Deutsch said. "We've seen stores take French wines off the floor of their store. We've seen major chains stop the advertising of French wines in their weekly ads."

Passive boycotting is simply not buying the French stuff. ACTIVE boycotting is contacting the manager of your local grocery store and asking him NOT to stock or purchase French wines, cheeses, water or yogurt.

The American backlash apparently is having little or no impact on business with Germany, the other major European country that actively opposed the war.

Because the Germans disagreement was a bit more civilized and was covered up by the vile rhetoric spewing from the mouths of the French protestors and their leaders. And also the Germans did not try to undercut our military actions like the French. And also the German leaders are not publicly trying to make a European force to counter the US like the French. The French leaders are behaving like the former Soviet Union.

"It is necessary to say to those who are unhappy with the positions of French diplomacy that they are free to criticize, but they must keep products and services of our enterprises outside their quarrel."

One has to wonder just what is going through the minds of the people of that SH*TTY LITTLE COUNTRY that they believe we MUST do anything because they want us to?

Disloyal, ungrateful, annoying and smelly people that they are.

I find myself hard pressed to abide by the wishes of a country such as France where the dark mysteries of personal hygiene yet evades them.

And to think abou a year ago I was so hopeful they might turn around. What a mistake on my part.

"Certain French enterprises are suffering today from the differences that have arisen among states over the Iraqi question," the Movement of French Enterprises (Medef) said. "It is necessary to say to those who are unhappy with the positions of French diplomacy that they are free to criticize, but they must keep products and services of our enterprises outside their quarrel."

Of course the arrogant pigs over there wouldn't have noticed or said squat if we didn't boycott them. When they hit -5% GDP and 20% plus unemployment, then and only then will I be satisfied.

I agree. It's more like Francobarfia. Everytime their nation is mentioned, I feel like tossing my cookies.

I'll drink to that! :)

This article seems to imply that if Chirac now "makes up" with Washington, the American people will abandon the boycott.

Sorry boys, the damage is done.

I don't think so.

French intellectuals in particular love to criticize the US for our alleged imperialism. The US never had colonies like the French nor did the US ever brutalize countries like the French did to Vietnam and Algeria. Every single US mistake is endless held up as 'proof' of maliciousness but there is no similar soul searching regarding their own misdeeds. One of my relatives was beheaded in Vietnam by French colonialists. I have nothing but contempt for the French.

So when is NASA going to fire the French company that provides all the nitrogen gas used to process and launch the space shuttles at KSC?

Air Liquide
