Translating Catholic sorrow and outrage into Catholic action
PRESS RELEASE
SUBJECT: 7,500 Days of Prayer and Fasting for Sen. Daschle and his bishop are answered, ending a grave public scandal to Catholic Faithful
April 17, 2003
Early in 2002, the Catholic Family Association of America (CFAA) initiated the Divine Mercy Prayer Project to provide pro-life individuals a means of acting as individuals, in a truly focused, high profile, united, sustained and simple way, to affect either the conversion or exposure to shame of those "Catholic" politicians whose actions are destroying innocent life, and Christian culture in the process, thus constituting a grave public scandal for all Christians and men of good will.
Sen. Tom Daschle was the first Catholic politician who was the recipient of this united and sustained spiritual work of Mercy, and today we are seeing the blessed fruits of this undertaking.
The project was implemented by the distribution of post-card brochures to people who would commit to prayer and fasting for the soul of Sen. Tom Daschle and his bishop. CFAA passed out 30,000 of these Divine Mercy Prayer Project cards at the 2002 March For Life in Washington DC. In addition, thousands more of these cards were distributed directly to Sen. Daschles constituents in South Dakota, and hundreds of individuals downloaded the Divine Mercy Prayer Project PDF file to print out and pass out on their own.
We received pledges for 7,500 Days of Prayer and Fasting for Sen. Daschle and his bishop, Sioux Falls' Bishop Robert Carlson.
Tim Chichester, President of CFAA, directly contacted Sen. Daschles office, as well as Bishop Carlsons office, appraising them of our efforts to gather commitments of prayer and fasting for Sen. Daschle. Mr. Chichester respectfully requested that, barring his conversion and rejection of the Culture of Death, Bishop Carlson formally declare Sen. Daschle no longer in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
According to the April 17, 2003 edition of The Weekly Standard:
TOM DASCHLE may no longer call himself a Catholic. The Senate minority leader and the highest ranking Democrat in Washington has been sent a letter by his home diocese of Sioux Falls . . . directing him to remove from his congressional biography and campaign documents all references to his standing as a member of the Catholic Church. . . The directive from Sioux Falls' Bishop Robert Carlson is rather something less than excommunication--and, at the same time, something more: a declaration that Tom Daschle's religious identification constitutes, in technical Catholic vocabulary, a grave public scandal.
We at CFAA commend Sioux Falls' Bishop Robert Carlson for his courage and leadership in taking this most urgent and necessary stance in defense of the Culture of Life and the Roman Catholic Faith. We encourage all faithful Catholics to continue to pray and fast for Sen. Daschles salvation and reunion with the Church, and we hope the CFAA Divine Mercy Prayer Project will foster similar positive results among the many other Culture of Death Catholic politicians. The absolute correct way to do this.

Wouldn't it be nice if they did the same for pedophilia in society.

A BUMP for Sioux Falls' Bishop Robert Carlson.

First we need to reach out to Massachusetts, the "Catholic state" that harbors Ted Kennedy and John Kerry.

Fantastic!
Now how do we go about doing the same for our Gov. Granholm.
It's obvious that picketing outside her church has no effect.
Maybe we need something like the "deck of cards"?
You know, draw one and pray 'til mission accomplished.

Has little Tommy made any public response to this? Has Rush been notified? Anybody else think little Tommy is snowballing down the hill of political irrelevance? I am sure he is saddened and deeply disturbed.

Yes, and it would be nice if ALL of the Christian churches did the same. Pedophilia is in the families and consequently in ALL churches.

Paraphrase of Bush to UN: "Back up your words with actions, or risk irrelevance."
Perhaps what we're also seeing here is the "trickle-down" effect of W's bold, God-fearing leadership. The UN scoffed. Praise God, Bishop Carlson and the diocese listened.
I pray that similar decrees be forwarded to the rest (Pelosi, Kennedy, et al), and may I humbly speculate that The Lord will empower and grow His church if it "stands in the gap," and continues to show reverent strength.

Woooo Hoooo!!! Gotta' respect that!!!! It is good to see that the power of God still influences our Country to such a great degree.
Our esteemed (not!!) governor out here in California could use a similar "treatment". I have heard some Catholic leaders call on Gray Davis to stop supporting abortion, or to stop calling himself a Catholic, but so far he has not. In fact, I think he has responded directly to them, telling them that he intends to do neither. I think that he even once declared something like "I am a Catholic AND I am pro-choice!!". If someone knows this to be inaccurate, please correct me, but I thought I heard him say something like that.
I am a bit concerned about some Catholic Churches themselves though. Take my own Parish here in the East Bay, for example. I was glancing through their Sunday Bulletin last weekend, and what did I see on page 2?? There was a blurb there asking for "activists" to join a parishner and some renegade priest on Good Friday morning to go out to Livermore to the Lawrence Livermore Labs (really early, like 6:00am or something). The blurb said that after celebrating some sort of service, that those who "felt comfortable" doing so should be prepared to peacefully block the entrance to the Labs, and possibly get arrested.
I couldn't believe what I was reading. I was tempted to call up the Head Priest of the Parish and complain, but decided that it wouldn't do any good, as he probably has to approve anything that goes into the bulletin anyway.
I am tempted to show up in Livermore on Friday morning, bearing a sign that reads "Catholics Support George Bush". However, that is awfully early, and I still have to go to work!! I'd love to see the looks on their faces though, if I showed up and did that!! Heck, I'd even help the Police arrest them!!
Either way, we have a long way to go. However, I'd like to believe that at least 95% of the Catholic Church is actually sane, and that these kooks are a demented abberation (who desperately need our prayers!!).
Good point earlier about Pedophiles. It is not just a Catholic problem. It is an abomination that effects all humans equally, no matter where they live, or what they believe. To refer to all/most Catholics (or Catholic leadership) as pedophiles is to succumb to the left-wing propoganda of the godless news/entertainment media industrial complex.

Sen. Daschle is/was Catholic?
That is a shock.
Me, I'm just praying for our beloved National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice, to be inspired to see the truth and embrace pro-life.
