Clara Harris dental practices to be sold
04/17/2003
Associated Press
FRIENDSWOOD, Texas A probate judge has cleared the way for executors of a slain orthodontist to sell the dental properties he owned with his wife, who was convicted in his death after she ran over him with a luxury car.
Clara Harris and her husband, David L. Harris, had created eight limited liability partnerships which operated six Houston-area dental practices.
Robert P. Blanchard, in a court filing, has said the sale was necessary to pay claims including $801,000 in federal estate taxes.
Clara Harris, 45, is serving a 20-year prison term for running over her husband with a Mercedes-Benz sedan July 24 after confronting him with another woman at the Nassau Bay Hilton. The dentist, who was given a job at the computer repair and maintenance shop at Mountain View Prison in Gatesville, is not allowed to practice dentistry.
Galveston County Probate Judge Gladys Burwell on Tuesday granted the estate executors' request to sell the Harrises' dental properties.
Court testimony showed that David Harris Space Center Orthodontics in Clear Lake and the Clara Harris Lake Jackson location were the most successful businesses, pulling in about $500,000 in yearly revenues.
Filings in probate court show $4.2 million in claims or charges against the Harris estate, with some already paid. Estimated value of the property is $4.1 million, not including the dental practices.

A good argument for the repeal of the estate tax law.....a spouse can leave everything to the other spouse, no estate taxdue..it's called the "unlimited marital exemption"..but because you can't profit from a murder, the assets can't go to her...they'll go to whomever was next in his will, or if no will, then to whomever is prescribed by Texas law...kids, parents....it's a stated formula....but first, the gummint gets to take a whack at the pile....so, "cui bono" at his death?...the Treasury...

I live in Lake Jackson where one of the Harris Dental Offices is. Had lunch Monday with a friend of the Harrises. She said the twin boys live in the house with Paternal grandparents.
I think what David did was just as bad as what Clara did. I am very good friends with a woman who had lunch with Clara the day before the murder, and there is a lot more to the story. David deserved to be run over.

I really don't blame Clara one bit. It is too bad she didn't wait until she was more stable and thinking straight. By now she would be starting to get over the bastard. He treated her very abusively for months before she killed him. Too bad she didn't think straight and divorce him, get mental help to get over the depression, and by now she would be recovering from the hurt. Instead she is in prison. I don't blame her one bit for killing him, love triangles are one of the big events that cause murder and mayhem in families. It has happened quite a few times in this town, but only she was rich and well known... The rest of them are just a blip in the paper. One last week, a man and his wife killed his 23 year old pregnant mistress and left her 3 year old outisde, until neighbors found her. Love triangles end in death so often here. maybe cause it is the hot humid gulf coast. Lots of tempers. Some times they find the husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, children, dead, shot, in the house... Happens a lot lately actually!

...the twin boys live in the house with Paternal grandparents. Ah. His parents. Thanks.
David deserved to be run over.
There was a LOT of discussion here on FR regarding the murder of David Harris. His actions in their relationship were inexcusable. The law in Texas is pretty clear regarding murder, I think. I would never do the things that David did in his relationship with his wife. I thought the verdict was correct and that the punishment was fair (she COULD have received LIFE). Just imho.

It is sad indeed that he is dead and she now has to spend then next (most likely) 10 years in prison. He definitely was the ba**ard you suggest, no doubt. I didn't see your comment there before replying in my previous note.
Thanks.
