What I found interesting about the good doctor is that at 72 he leaves behind his wife and MOTHER as survivors.

More and more doctors are coming around, so it's easier to find ones that don't have a problem with my way of eating (in fact, a doctor put me on it in the first place), but a lot of them still stick to the low-fat, high-carb line, which is so unhealthy for people who are already battling with weight problems.

My own doctor is the one who told me to use an Atkins-type diet. He said he'd rather see people eating a steak dinner than pasta. Said to avoid the "white" foods: bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes.

This is half right. Go to whole grains rather than white (bleached) carbs (patsas, rice).

Stop there and stay away from steak and its tri-glycerides and, yes, carcinogens.

Well, my doc was not advocating the strict Atkins diet. But he seems to personally believe that a modified Atkins is a good substitute for a lot of people.

He just doesn't believe in the grains part of the food pyramid!

25lbs and holding. Replaced chips with peanuts; coke, milk, juice, etc with water and diet sprite. The only other major change was I only eat maybe 1 roll at a restaurant instead of 5.

Actually, this isn't even close to Atkins, unless your waffles and cake are made from low-carb recipes.

You may eat fruit once you are out of induction. Berries are the best, because you subtract fiber from carbs. And berries have all sort of cool thing-a-majigs that can prevent cancer.

And I am one of them. His diet truely has saved my life. My diabetes has been under control since the day I read his book. God speed Dr. Atkins!!

We have a new foal, a filly born to one of our mares 4 weeks ago. When she was two days old she was injured in the stall, a severe head injury. We thought she might not make it.

The Vet gave her a significant dose of DMSO intrvenously (a vein in her neck) to treat the suspected swelling in her head. She began to get better, but then relapsed. The Vet repeated the DMSO treatment, and she improved, then relapsed. Sort of a two steps forward, one step back routine.

Early this week she had her last DMSO treatment, and now her recovery is progressing without the relapse. Prior to this week we had to feed her every 2 hours through a tube with some of the mare's milk (we had to milk the mare) and this supplemented with a powdered substitute Mare's Milk Plus reconstituted with water. We had to use the tube because she would not drink from a bucket or a bowl.

There has been considerable prayer for her, and Monday this week a Christian friend prayed for her at the stall. This was after her last DMSO treatment. Tuesday this week is when we began to see dramatic improvement. She is now nursing, drinking the substitute mix from a bowl, and nibbling on Calf Manna, which she really likes.

When she was born we named her Misty. Now we call her Miracle Misty!

I relate this, because I would think that if the DMSO treatment works miracles on a head injured foal, why not on people with head injuries? I know, FDA and all that, but I still ask the question.

I had hoped DrAtkins would live to 110 at least but in light of his death by accident I hope he stipulated a autopsy be performed on him.

You summed it up. He lived a great life, helped many thousands of people during his life, and continued to do his job till a ripe age.
