We know that in reality committed Iraqi commanders were losing hundreds of soldiers a day to desertion.

Can you desert to hell?

I liked the part where he says the fact that we haven't disclosed the huge underground weapons stockpile is proof of its existence.

Does that mean that since we haven't disclosed we got Saddam out by using a Transporter is proof that we have a Transporter??

"Beam me up, Scotty."

Granting American citizenship and residency in the United States to some of the first echelon commanders and their families, depending on their wishes

The Secretary of Defense has no authority to do that. Frankly, this whole article sounds bogus.

A note on your source:

This is a translation of an 4/14 Arabic article from a Lebanese paper. Go to the link and note the comments by Eric Mueller, the "arabist" who translated it. E.g. "the Anglo-American aggression againt Iraq," and reference to the cooperation of Iraqi forces with the coalition as "The Great Betrayal." Mueller also informs us that this article "feels" like it was originally written in English, and claims that it is overly favorable to the American side of things. IOW, without saying so, he's darkly hinting that the article was planted by an American source.

Anybody heard of the p.o.s. before? It might help if you knew that this website he is working/providing content for belongs to David Irving, the infamous holocaust denier. Why does it not surprise me that the brown-shirts are marching with the green-crescents?

Second, I guess will not be able to use the "human shield" trojan horse again soon.

My first thought when I read that was that in future military actions, human shields will be not only unwelcome, but will probably be assumed to be CIA. Well, now, won't that be a shame? (not!)

...**betrayal** led to Saddam's defeat, not coalition military skill....

There are two sides to this truth of betrayal. The coalition saught and received the betrayals. There is no loss of honor for seeking and obtaining the capitulation.

It will be seen as a different weapon used to subdue Saddam. Money, plain old US$, did the trick when used along with extreme skill.

Could have any others pulled this off? No! certainly not.

The message still remains......"Don't screw with America. Those boys are good!"

"Where did those mountains of weapons go?"

WMDs are another story, but I'm still in awe in the amount of conventional weapons in Iraq including RPGs, artillery shells, and AKs. That country was loaded! I believe I saw on Fox that 50,000 AKs were melted in Tikrit yesterday. WMDs we'll find but we've already found UN 'proscribed' weapons including heat seeking SAMs.

Yes, that "comment" on the side of the article was nauseating in itself, to use his own word... Here is the "commentary."

Eric Mueller comments:

THIS report from the newspaper, "Sawt al-`Urouba" clearly originates from an American source. As one translates it, it "feels" as though it was once written in English.

It also has the typical boastful "Americans never make mistkakes" "Americans always outsmart everybody" tone that has become so nauseatingly predominant in coverage of the Anglo-American aggression againt Iraq, and it makes no mention of certain things that might be embarrassing for the US and which are now leaking out elsewhere in Arabic.

Nevertheless it does bring out a number of interesting details and is the longest report on the Great Betrayal that I have seen so far. There have been other reports in the Arabic press that in broad outlines have told the same tale.

Arabist Eric Mueller is this website's expert on Middle Eastern affairs.

Third: To shell the satellite dishes on the roof of the Palestine Hotel. It was here where the al-Jazeera journalist Tariq Ayyoub was martyred.

I'm not buying it. This is far too detailed for some outsider to have knowledge of.

"Frankly, this whole article sounds bogus."

Perhaps, but Fox commentators have been hinting at something like this. True or not, it spells trouble for the "human shields"--which gives me no end of satisfaction. No one will ever trust them again.

From the beginning, the heads of the American Central Intelligence Agency followed a plan to use the work of agents posing as "human shields."

Sure fooled us. This is great, I wonder what the "real idiot shields" think about the fact that they were providing cover for the CIA. Dear diary.

From the beginning, the heads of the American Central Intelligence Agency followed a plan to use the work of agents posing as "human shields." The CIA chiefs used peace activists in America carefully and systematically. They sent three groups of peace activists to the region, and in particular into Baghdad on the basis that that would be the place where the decisive battle would be fought.

Somehow this sent my BS meter off the charts.

You're right, of course. I was parsing it from the point of view of Mideast moral lepers.

I'm sorry I left out the side bar. You accurately included the commentary.

I am convinced that many Iraqi military made agreements that saved Iraq from great loss of life and infrastructure destrucion, either by Iraqi or coalition hands.

Saddam called and asked "Is Paris burning?" and they all replied "Yes Sir!"

I hope that history learns soon from firsthand accounts rather than sources such as the one posted.

On the bright side, all future "human shields" are guaranteed to experience intrusive body cavity searches.

To some of the fags that would be a perk.

OTOH, regarding the Human Shields.... remember when Baghdad Bob had them all rounded up and brought to the Palestine Hotel? Perhaps there is a note of truth to this part of the story... perhaps Baghdad Bob didn't want those Human Shields out there working for "US" any longer, so he had them brought to the hotel where he could keep them under his thumbs, er... his guns.
