That's horrible. I feel especially bad for that poor little girl, finding her mother like that.
Lord have mercy.

I don't agree with Senator Leghorn (D-Disney) politically, but it is a shame to see him going through all this. No schadenfreude here, prayers out to Senator Hollings and his daughter's family.

Like Fred Thompson, this may give him another reason to retire next year.

Outliving one's children is almost like a curse. Poor fella.

Regardless of one's political differences, this is a terrible thing to happen. Sen. Hollings has been the butt of jokes and parodies over the years, but making light of the death of one of his children is uncalled for. This is very sad news. Prayers for the Senator and his family.

There is nothing worse than finding your parent dead. It's something that stays with you all your life. Prayers for this child.

That almost happened to me when I turned on C-SPAN2 one day.

Very sorry to hear this- my wife used to work with a woman whose daughter is on his staff, and Dem or not, he's a decent guy.

The death of his daughter, one of four children, is the latest in a series of personal tragedies in recent years. In August 1999, his Isle of Palms home burned, destroying 40 years of political momentos. In the months after the fire, Hollings' two older brothers died, one of complications from emphysema and one of cancer....my aplogies to the moderator (who will probably let this stay about 15 seconds) and to the senator, but payback seems to be catching up with him and I just can't resist:
"Der is too much consu-u-u-umin' goin' 'round heah!"

He's certainly being tested. All those tragedies...May God give him peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Does she have a husband? I hope the little girl will have a comforting person to look after her.
God be with the family.

How tragic. There's nothing I can think of that's worse than a parent losing a child -- I saw what it did to my grandmother when her youngest daughter (my mom) died suddenly. It took her will to go on, and she didn't last all that much longer. My deepest sympathies to the Hollings family.

I am sorry to hear this.. always sad.
It's tempered however.. Not because he's a democrat, but because Hollings and other popular figures have millions to pray for them and express sympathy. They never go through these things alone, there's always an arm extended for them in situations like this. Always someone there to provide comfort and mourn with them. Drop a card in the mail or what have you..
My greatest sympathy goes to people who don't have this luxury, and are truly alone in their grief.
