But I couldn't preview the posting until I put in a URL. It required one.

Check out the movie "Gattaca"Exactly what I told my wife when it was released. We are definately on that road.

Won't get much from me, I haven't been to a doctor for as much as a check-up since 1992 and then I only had a physical and a drug test required for a new job...

Apparently you don't have small children. That changes everything.
To: webstersII
Wow, Hillary did this all by herself? Not bad for a first-term Senator. Puh-leeze.

I can! And I am not the poster... recently, new tax bond increases on our property taxes were passed to boister our local hospital and bring it out of the "red". Unfortunately, surgeries, births and E.R. still being used as the primary care for illegals. We are in the Sonoma Valley, CA. Our schools are running in the red, services being cut, as the tax base cannot meet the added expense of illegals, free food and bus program, and transulators. Its really simple accounting.

A medical ID sounds like a very good idea. The illegal aliens are drowning our hospitals with debt and putting them out of business. Here is a question for you: would you rather have a medical ID number, or have to travel out of country for medical care because THERE ARE NO MORE HOSPITALS IN THE USA?
Trolling here at FR this morning? Your either/or scenario is simply ludricrous and follows the typical statist m.o.: Give up all your liberties so you can be truly free; if you don't, things will become very bad. Turn to us. We will save you from the horrible scenario that we propose to scare you to turn to us.

You are sooo right! At time of retirement, medical was $545.00. Two years later, we are now paying $700.00. This won't stop, until medicare kicks in. The illegals here have the same services I have, access to specialists. They pay zero. Go figure.

You hit the nail right on the head. And I concede you are also correct that some Republicans are complicit in this. I don't think a lot of them really know who's behind a lot of this stuff.
Try doing a Google search on "Robert Wood Johnson Foundation" and "Clinton Health Care Task Force". Then try substituting PDFA or DARE for "Clinton Health Care Task Force". An NGO, directly tied to the pharm industry, funding an agenda to put as much of your health care as possible into the hands of the government, and them in a position to directly influence the bureaucrats involved.

Many years ago my dad suggested the U.S. should just make Mexico the 51st state. I scoffed then.

I used the Hillary name in there because this was one of the foundational items recommended by her task force. Getting all the records together was the first step in starting to control access. It may not have been her doing but alot of the inspiration was hers.

Well, I guess I'll cancel my medical insurance and pay cash for anything I need.

As a consultant, we have maintained a HIPAA practice for some time. The fact is, we HATE this HillaryCare law.
It will cost 50 percent as much within one year for medical care. Already, insurance companies have been raising their rates to cover the costs.
It places doctors at risk of going to jail if they treat patients with jumping through all the HillaryHoops. There will be less doctors in the future. Many are retiring due to this law. I have personal doctor friends who are leaving the medical profession this year.
HillaryCare requires doctors to provide your medical records to the government, while making it harder for your health care providers to share your information between them per your own request.
Your company who sponsors your health insurance cannot act on your behalf to settle disputes or so much as call your insurance agent to provide them information on your behalf, a common and necessary practice, today.
The government can cut off your health care by simply turning off the switch at your insurance company.
The basis of the government getting your information is the required form that you must sign for health care at your doctors office. It states that you agree to HillaryCare and that you will allow your doctor to provide your information to the government. Extortion to the HillaryHilt.
You lose access to your own medical records. If you need to take your records from one doctors office to another. Forget it. Not allowed.

Actually it was the failure of the Congress...but it was Bill Clinton's HHS, under Donna Shalala, that put it into effect...
August 21, 1999 - Congress failed to enact legislation governing standards with respect to the privacy of individually identifiable health information by this deadline. Therefore, HIPAA requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to promulgate such standards by regulation. Proposed regulations, based generally on the above recommendations to Congress, are expected to be published this fall for public comment.
October 29, 1999 Clinton Administration Announces Proposed Rules -- Privacy Standards for Individually Identifiable Health Information. Published in Federal Register November 3, 1999; 60-day comment period ends January 3, 2000.

I do notice that Tommy Thompson has made modifications to the regulations, after consultation with "a broad and diverse group of lawmakers, interest groups, health care leaders and individual citizens". I wonder if these changes are reflected in the above article or if they are basing their complaints on the original version of the regulations.
To: PatrioticAmerican
What did the government state the "reason" was for this privacy violation?
Has this been tested in court yet?
To: thimblerig
Medical ID has nothing to do with providing medical care to illegal aliens. Medical ID does NOT preclude that in the least, they just give them medical ID numbers too.
In the meantime your privacy is compromised.

This is an outrage. The frog is still cooking.
