The reason they are posted are twofold- we don't need to waste the bandwidth, and it consolidates the commentary to one thread for those of us interested in the item.

This is why it's important to, first post an article with its title entact so people can find it if they are searching, and second, that people actually do a search before they post.

I understand the reasons. But it is overused. We've all seen the multiple multiple threads when some issue or news item is hot. These definately need to be pulled and I certainly agree people should post with original headline.

But to pull the thread in question is another matter. Pulling it would effectively end discussion of this topic as the other thread, wherever it is, can not be found, did not get enough activity, was posted too late for anyone to notice it and it dropped out of rotation.

I understand what you are saying but the "Already been posted alerts" are in my opinion used more often than is necessary. Not disagreeing with you entirely, just trying to be a balancing influence here.

This article doesn't seem ligit for some reason.
If it were true, surely the media would already have
it on non-stop for the past couple of days. I bit
at this and even related it to my husband. Why would
anyone want to post a fake article? Can someone speak
to this one way or the other? This would be BIG news
if true and even the mainstream media wouldn't keep
mum.

BTW, I only go back to threads if someone bothers to address their reply to me. I asked you the question in reply #29, and you gave your opinion in reply #48 to ElGato, so I was not flagged to the fact that you had answered the question.
