"Major League Baseball disavowed any connection to the actions of the Hall's president,"

Is there a link to that, or has anybody actually READ that statement by MLB?

...the National Council of Churches, has raised $400,000 in the past six months to position itself as a force in the antiwar movement

Is this "church" body tax-exempt? ARe they not supposed to refrain from politics? Do they need an audit by the IRS to determine if they should continue their exempt status?

Now you understand how the phrase 'vast right wing conspiracy' was conceived. Whenever you cannot validate your stand, blame it on the VRWC. Poor Tim.... a stupid movie (which never deserved to be connected with a baseball museum) could not be shown on an anniversary date because the head of the museum thought Tim would 'upstage' the ceremony with his diatribe and all he can do is blame it all on the Bush Administration (like they really care) and Fox News. Basically all he is saying is "Fox News, quit telling your listeners to be mean to me!"

Now when my son was 8 years old and cried whenever something didn't go his way, I told him to shut up, quit crying, and grow up. The world is not always fair. Where's Tim's mother?

U.S. Constitution: First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Just where does it mention the Baseball Hall of Fame, FNC, Rush Limbaugh?
The 1st Amendment was written to keep the government from infringing on the citizen's right. Not the citizen's right to infringe on another citizen.

"While the journalists' outrage at the cancellation of our appearance in [Hall of Fame headquarters at] Cooperstown is not about my views; it is about my right to express those views. I am extremely grateful that there are those of you out there still with a fierce belief in constitutionally guaranteed rights," Mr. Robbins said.

These people are so arrogant, not only to believe their thoughts are so worthwhile and we should give them heed, but they do not even understand what the 1st amendment says. To hear him and Garafalo, Sheen et. al. one must believe their pronouncements are being sneaked out of their prison cells.

A right to say something (no matter how stupid) is not a guarantee from the marketplace consequences for what you said. These people tire me.

My underlying point, which may have been obscure (certainly not the first time), was meant to be this:

It's being a hypocrite to support Democratic wars and oppose Republican ones, as Robbins does. It's also being a hypocrite to support Republican wars and oppose Democratic ones, as you do. (In both cases, to practice power worship, of "our" man being in the White House, rather than any principled opposition or support of war as an instrument of policy.)

It is NOT being a hypocrite to oppose both Democratic and Republican wars. As I and others have done. Nor to say, truncating the rest of Decatur's qualification of his famous phrase, "My country, right or wrong" and to support all such wars, because it's "my country^H^H^H^H^H^H^H government."

Once again, you who demonstrated, AND Robbins, are the hypocrites.

So should we expect little Timmy at the next RKBA protest??

I thought not...

The link to the statement is: http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/whats_new/statement_2003_04_11.htm It reads:

April 11, 2003
STATEMENT BY
Dale Petroskey
President, National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum
The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, is a special place. The Game’s greatest players, managers, umpires, and executives are honored here, and it’s where The Game’s rich history is preserved. Those who have served in the U.S. military are also honored here. Active duty and retired military personnel receive free admission, and last Memorial Day, a plaque was dedicated to honor the 64 Hall of Fame members who have served this country in the armed forces during wartime.

As much as The Hall of Fame honors our armed forces, this institution should never be used as a platform for public pro-war sentiments – nor public anti-war sentiments. Given the track record of Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, and the timing – with our troops committed in Iraq – a strong possibility existed that they could have used The Hall of Fame as a backdrop for their views. Mr. Robbins and Ms. Sarandon have every right to express their opinions. But The Baseball Hall of Fame is not the proper venue for highly-charged political expressions, whatever they may be.

He's going to endear himself only to the anti-American crowd.
After a while he will be mocked walking around in public.

You would think these Klingons would figure out that if you go public, the public have a right to respond.

It's not like he shared his views only with a neighbor, ne and the witch wife wanted to make a PUBLIC IMPACT...
The IMPACT rebounded on their heads and they have a problem with all this. That is to friggin bad.

I don't know what MLB has said about the HOF statement, but I'll bet it was a simple response such as "we don't have anything to do with it. Next question?"

I think Tim is lost, but at least his illegitimate child has a grandma that cares enough to tell the truth. Let's hope for his sake that he is allowed to see her again.

Wow, you're so principled. Can I like, stand next to you or something.

Fact of the matter is, your analysis is quite shallow, as if FReepers agree with ALL R wars and disagree with ALL D wars. In fact, I agree with Dem Presidents in WWI, WWII, Korea, Kennedy in Vietnam, but not LBJ, and I agree with Repubs Bush in GWI, and W in Afghanistan and Iraq. I only disagree with clinton invirtually EVERY instance, LBJ for not fighting to win, and Carter's handling of Iran and North Korea.

In fact, these DC FReepers probably agreed with Roosevelt and Wilson too, so your premise is FALSE.

I have begun to enjoy the disconnected, incoherent ramblings of Sheen, Robbins, Sarandon and others because I have realized that the Democrats have painted theselves into a corner. The Democrats have become highly dependent on a few special interest groups for money and support. Hollywood money is very important for the Democrats.

This is also creates a problem for the Dems, however. As much as they would like to to tell Tim Robbins to shut up and to ignore the comically illiterate memos from Babara Streisand they can't because of the money.

Keep them talking; it keeps getting funnier.

Hey Angelwood, greybird says you disagree with Democrat President's wars. Do you disagree with Roosevelt for getting us into WWII? Do you disagree with Kennedy for trying to stop the spread of Communism in SE Asia by sending troops to Vietnam?
