I don't know what to make of the fact that the CIA led the escape plan to get him out of Denmark while charges were pending. Anyone know more?

Can the DOD be put in charge of the next heir apparent?

Bravo Sierra. The CIA isn't in a position to select a leader for the Iraqi people, as our president has a different and most radical notion ... THE IRAQI PEOPLE WILL SELECT WHOM THEY WISH TO LEAD THEIR COUNTRY.

On general principles I don't mind if Iraq IS NOT lead by the "CIA Candidate".
If he was involved in gas attacks against his own folks, why is the US Government supporting him?
Well, guess it doesn't matter much anymore.

This guy was the CIA choice to head Iraq. The DOD wanted Chalabi.
There may be some spook stuff going on here, but it's pretty amazing that the CIA didn't protect him better.
I sure would like to see another wire service verify this.

Well - we're going to be selecting an interim leader until the Iraqi's can get it together. In fact we already have a general in charge of civilian administration - forget his name at the moment.

Tearing down a corrupt regime is the easy part.
Replacing it with something stable and wholesome is generally much more difficult.
