War's Success Is Boon to Bush, As Democratic Challenges Loom

WASHINGTON -- Success in Iraq appears to have paid a quick political dividend for President Bush, lifting his standing on both domestic and international issues and strengthening him against a Democratic challenge in 2004.

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows that Mr. Bush faces big political challenges, from anxiety about terrorism to concern about a lagging economy. Yet the military victory has lifted Americans' spirits and came without some worst-case scenarios that critics had predicted, such as large-scale bombings of Iraqi civilians or new terrorist strikes against the U.S.

"while just 23% expressed disapproval"

The same 23% when polled separately stated on the following question:

You and Clinton, swallow or spit?

22% Swallow
1% Could I do even more

This is a reasonable and true report of the support for GWB at this time. For all us freepers we most likely fall in the category of supporters. There are still people out there who disregard the support and are in denial like Baghdad Bob was when US troops were is his split screen. One guy in particular is Barry Crimmins. He can be found, with all of his anti-American and anti-Bush junk at www.barrycrimmins.com. He is supposed to be a comic, writer, and activist but all I can figure out is that he hates the USA. Send him your regards via e-mail. His replies are worth the effort.

The proportion that says the war has increased the threat of terrorism against the U.S. fell sharply to 32%, from 52% just before the war.

So those that claimed that a War in Iraq would make it MORE LIKELY that we would experience another 9/11 are wrong again. How many times is a leftist allowed to be wrong before he is branded a fool or, at least, a lying partisan?

The most troubling part of this article is the fact that only 49% wish that the Bush tax cut passes. There is a reason for this and it follows the data. Although all workers pay the payroll taxes only about 50% pay tax on income to a large extent. This is because of the steep progressivity and the relatively large exemptions allowed. This tax policy has contributed to the Republican v. Democrat rift. If we believe that we have a voice and can lead then we have to make at least 70% of the working population pay taxes at a level where they have significance. Only then will the majority be interested in changing the system of taxation.

This poll number to me is shocking, however, we need to see the question. It probabaly would be something like, "Do you approve of disapprove of a tax cut that will increase the deficit and cause a cuts elsewhere?" To get the number they want they will ask the question in a biased way.

Barry Crimmins is the Anti-Christ. He used to write for "In Living Color" and "Dennis Miller." In both cases, he was fired because he is unable to differentiate marginal politics from comedy. I know the guy personally, and I can promise you that he comes accross as a warm, intelligent, caring individual, but in reality he is stark-raving mad. We sometimes accuse those with liberal views of being communists. This guy really does want the people of this country to overthrow the government and set up a socialist state. And he believes that such a chain of events is inevitible. If you disagree with him, you are a Nazi, or practicing "McCarthyism."

Currently Crimmins is unable to find work, other than the occasional freelance atricle in the free "Boston Phoenix," and living in failure in upstate New York. But the liberal media loves him and he recurrs from time to time on shows like Bill Mahr and Donahue. When he does he needs to be stamped out as quickly as possible. Like the mildew that he is.

As FA pointed out, visit his website and find out for yourself. Be sure to visit the guestbook, but don't expect to see your comments up for long.

I monitor that guy's remarks all the time. Like a lot of the liberal media, he is currently fixated on the looting. Before that he was fixated on all the protesting that was going on over here. Until it became clear to him that a huge majority supports the war. He has never been able to get over the fact that President Bush won the 2000 election. Like Bill Mahr pointed out, all of his policy opinions are formed as follows: I hate George Bush. George Bush wants to do X. Why is X wrong?
