I just saw the CNN footage of the cnn NONembeded crew at tikrit. These reporters are idiots, the found an intact abandoned armored personel carrier. They did not even THINK it might have been booby trapped or that US forces could not be able to tell from a distance they were not iraqi troops. Stupid risks from stupid reporters.

Very bad PR. I hope we can get out of this one. I heard that museum was completely looted
but didn't know about the libraries or universities were also looted.
What were all the tanks from the 3RD ID doing? They couldn't spare a tank or two for each of those buildings. Only the oil ministry was protected. Who screwed up this one?
I think tanks were also protecting the main electrical stations and water stations as well. So, at least we came out okay there.

I'd been listening to some Eric Johnson, too loud, and forgot to turn the speakers down when it was over. I need to make a "mental hook" to hit the Mute button on the BagCam when I play music :-).

keep in mind a lot of the stuff was also looted in 1991. They could just be sandbagging the damages.

There was also a superbly equipped hospital, though Iraq has been telling the world for years that its medical facilities have been severely damaged by UN sanctions.A U.S. Army medic showed off a cache of drugs and equipment he said was worth between US$2-million and US$4-million.
"It appears that Saddam Hussein reserved the best medical treatment for the Republican Guard," said Jack Graham, a U.S. Army medic. He said the supplies will be handed out to Iraqi hospitals.

Who screwed up this one?Can you link your story about universites and libraries?
The military had no policing mandate, so what did you wish them to do?
Some of us have an idea that the old regime is going out kicking and screaming and there is more (or less, depending on your perspective) to the story than may appear.
I would NOT classify it as "screwing up" or "Bad PR", unless one sits in briefing rooms dreaming up "questions".

When I first saw the extremely large 'brain' (vacuum) area, I thought Bill Clinton had really aged....then I noticed the enlarged ears and knew I was wrong. If it had been Bill, the nose would be coming through my screen...
