What were all the tanks from the 3RD ID doing? They couldn't spare a tank or two for each of those buildings. Only the oil ministry was protected. Who screwed up this one?

I think tanks were also protecting the main electrical stations and water stations as well. So, at least we came out okay there.

keep in mind a lot of the stuff was also looted in 1991. They could just be sandbagging the damages.

The military had no policing mandate, so what did you wish them to do?

Some of us have an idea that the old regime is going out kicking and screaming and there is more (or less, depending on your perspective) to the story than may appear.

I would NOT classify it as "screwing up" or "Bad PR", unless one sits in briefing rooms dreaming up "questions".

It seems a lot of the records were looted along with the artifacts. Would your average Joe Looter fresh off the street know to grab those if he wanted to make a quick sale? I really, really doubt it. In other words, don't blame us or even Joe Looter. Try Saddamn and his myrmidons.
