But make no mistake, they are not like the American welfare group. These people know how to make their money and get the freebies also. They are fleecing this country in so many ways and for much more than we can imagine. It goes to the victimology that is the hallmark of Mexican perceptions of the U.S. They view the U.S. as having stolen "their" property, and that this is the reason that they are poor. A conclusion which is reinforced at every step by the Mexican government (because it gets them off the hook) and by ethnic radicals in the U.S. (hmm..like Daschle?). So the U.S. is assumed to have plenty of money to subsidize them, and it's OK for them to demand it, because after all, it should have been their money in the first place.
The truth is that, even with 40 million more people than Britain has, Mexico cannot even approximate the standard of living accomplished by the British on an island with far less natural resources than Mexico has. And it would have been the same had the United States never settled the West. Because their problems are intrinsic to the political and cultural norms that they have had for 500 years, and which they cling to. Translation: Spaniard law, which is 14th century feudalism, mixed with lightweight marxism imposed after the 1911-1920 revolution (the Ejido system, for example), and the culture of the Caudillo (machisimo, or personalism), has resulted in a horrorocracy that drives any rational person away, in search of fairness and social mobility.

I guess I am being convinced by what you and others have said to me.
But I have the feeling that reversing our immigration policies could be just as difficult as getting rid of the IRS, and for the same reason, that is because both of those things provide votes for Democrats.

You got that right!! The only problem with your statement - it also gets huge campaign contributions from corporate employees of these illegals for the Republican lawmakers. If the Republicans were not getting their share of this pie, believe me, they would be doing something about it.

Not arguing, but I don't see it as victimology - it is just greed and easy money. They know Americans work hard and that Americans are, by and large, very generous people. They consider the latter a weakness. I am always reminded of a line from The Magnificent Seven - "If the Lord hadn't wanted them sheared, he would not have made them sheep." That is what they think of us - just right for shearing.
We will part company when we blame this problem on the democrats totally - the Republicans have been making money from campaign contributors for many years. I believe President Bush's actions and actual words have done more to make the situation worse than any democrat in this country. He has actively encouraged it and has shown preference to Fox over other politicians - just don't lay this at the feet of the democrats. All politicians know the American people want something done about it. The Republicans have more allegience to something than they do to the possible ire of the American voter. I don't know what that is other than money from big corporations. But they are voting their pocketbooks - just like we should.

"If the Republicans were not getting their share of this pie" Great. Sounds like eating this pie is going to make us very sick.

Nanny has done a good job explaining all of this to you.
I don't know what part of the country you are from but I am from south Texas. IMO it is just a matter of time before we have socialized medicine forced on us because of the illegals. For instance, a diagnostic tool such as a CAT scan costs $2,100 for you and me but illegals get theirs for free. The CAT scan is used quite often as a CYA for doctors as,yes, they can and do sue. It cost over a $1,000 a day to stay in the hospital, but illegals get their bill paid for by the government. Look up emergency medicaid in googles.
Now, if you don't belive me, then ask a young mother in your area how much it costs to have a baby today. I know of a hospital in this area that averages between 300 and 400 births a month. The neonate intensive care unit is almost always full and many of the mothers don't get prenatal care.
Are the hospitals going broke? No. All you have to do is look up on the stock quotes HCA, Hospital corporation of America or any of the hospital corportaions that are down on the border. I can't prove this but IMHO the hospitals are in cahoots with the government with such things as emergency medicaid.
Isn't is a sad day when you feel you can't get rid of the IRS nor the immigration policy, but instead can give up the greatest medical system in the world? It is happening.

Live in Miami, grew up in central VA.
There are Mexicans here who work as migrant farm workers. There were none in Virginia when I was a kid, but they are there now.
Once in awhile I read about how America is becoming Hispanic. Leonard Pitts, for instance, thinks it would be funny if Caucasians were no longer top dog in the U.S.
However, to me, a point to keep in mind is that the centuries old tradition of individual freedom, the tradition on which our country was founded, is strictly an English speaking tradition, with roots in Anglo Saxon England. It exists nowhere in the world on any scale except English speaking countries, mainly the U.S.
Therefore, I fear for our tradition if speakers of another language could become the majority.
'Course academia and the Left are hard at work destroying freedom anyway.

.... the real enemy is much closer than Iraq. You got that right. And we can contain Mexico without a shot being fired. That is unless they want to start something they can't finish.
If they want to talk the talk, then let them TRY to walk the walk!! I'm tired of their bellyaching.

And the level of hatred Illegals exhibit to any white man who has the audacity to raise the question of legality, is really hard to believe.
In their mind, White America is to blame for all their oppression over the years. They think they are justifiably up here grabbing all they can, anyway they can, with absolutely ZERO respect for such a pathetic, weak-willed people, who can't even keep invaders out of their own nation.

Is there a benefactor out there who could finance conservative talk in Mexico. Look what it has done for us.

Oh, you're right; we don't have any argument. The opportunism you describe -- like you said, they view the extension of benefits as a sign of weakness, not egalitarian compassion.
I think that down deep, they know it's wrong - so the victimology is a justification for it. Convenient, and false.
The ethnic terrorists in this country - MALDEF, La Raza, MEChA - spend all their time nagging, whining, demanding and hustling every dime they can out of the American taxpayer because they regard us as weakling suckers .
And as far as Republicans and Democrats...there are only guilty parties there, each trying to outcompete the other to see how far they can go. Well intentioned souls in both parties are shouted down as quickly as possible.

Sounds like some kind of disconnect to me ... maybe they will stop coming as soon as they understand how much they hate America.

(It's about preserving OUR Borders, OUR Language and OUR American Culture) That says it all right there.
There are large sections of any big American city that does not even resemble America.
Accordng to statistics from the census bureau, Americans as we know them now will become the minority simply because we will be out bred.
I don't see a way to stop this trend anytime in the near future. In a letter I received from GWB, he says that diversity is our strength and he is going to push congress to pass 245(i).
This is one city hall that you can't fight!!

What a delightful thought that these people sneak across our border and vote our Constitution, culture, and society into oblivion with the nod of both major parties in our government.
