For the past two decades it has become apparent that an implosion has taken place within the ranks of American conservatism Uh... right. The "implosion" starting with the Regan Revolution, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the winning of both the White House and Congress by Republicans, and the defeat of Iraq in three weeks.
I'll take this kind of "implosion" any day. Man, I love idiot Lib writers like this one...

For a consensus that hardens into a bleak set of majoritarian platitudes that simply dries up dissent and disguises basic differences is arguably a greater challenge to the American system in the long run than anything advanced by Buchanan and his frontal assault on our civilization and our culture.
It will be interesting to see if anyone on Free Republic or elsewhere understand the nature of this debate or the implications thereof?
Republics are not for wimps or the easily (mis)led.
Best regards,

Buchanan's alliance with Lenora Fulani told us all we ever needed to know.
Fulani is a committed communist, a hater of the U.S. with all her being, and a hateful anti-semite.
That Buchanan would ally himself with such a person is quite revealing.

Considering how hard PJB worked to get the first President Bush defeated nothing surprises me.

Bless you Gramps. This is too good to keep to ourselves.
Separated at birth?
Thanks again to dighton for pointing this out.

An astute observation:
The very physical design of The American Conservative reminds the reader of The Nation. The paper is of newspaper quality. Layout and format likewise are similar to that critical organ of the Left...In the first three issues of The American Conservative we start with themes that have become staples of the Left in the period of its post-Soviet decline.
It is indeed interesting, and missed by many who still think of Buchananites as conservatives, how Leftist his platfomr has become. Even terminology he uses reads almost like that of Brezhnev's communist party.

You can't recognize intelligence and depth even when you look at them. Nor do you understand the meaning of the words used: look up and reflect on the meaning of implosion and then revisit the example you gave.

Heard Brian Lamb being interviewed on a radio program the other night.....Mr. knowitall said that the election will be all about the economy. Evidently he's beginning to believe all the crazies that call in. It also explains why there is never any admonition to the anti callers using the pro war line.

Justin Raimundo writing on the American Imperium is quite frank in identifying Buchanan with "the conservative movement of the 1930s on up through the early 1950s [which] was anti-imperialist and anti-interventionist."
The problem I (for one) have with the paleo-cons is they don't seem to realise that it's not 1932 anymore. Not that 1932(or anytime in the past) was the way they seem to remember it.
That being said they do serve a useful function by (I quore W F Buckley) "Standing athwart history saying stop." There is always the possibility that those of us who call ourselves Neo-cons could be wrong, I don't think so but it is a possibility.

Fulani was facking her support,
she turned right around stabbed him
in back right away. Fulani never
really supported Buchannan she
did it all to get attention.
