I guess he wants to emulate his daddy, right down to being a one-term President.

I said this back in November 2002, and I will say it again now:
Waiting for the expiration puts Dubya on the electoral hot-seat. The GOP in Congress ought to do the smart thing and push to repeal it NOW!

If Bush upholds continuing this assault weapons ban, I will not vote for him in 2004. And neither will a lot of other people I know.
To: Unwavering Conservative
If Bush signs it, I sit out the 2004 election.

You'll be happier with John Edwards? Or John Kerry? Or Joe Lieberman?
Making the perfect the enemy of the good generally means that the bad wins.
To: Unwavering Conservative
It'll expire, Bush is not going to take any active role either way on this is my guess.

please refer to my reply #9.
Is there any way to get this through to our reps and senators?

Ah yes, the attitude that gave us eight years of Clinton.

So far, the Republican controlled House will NOT even bring the AW ban up for renewal and if it does, there is a very good chance that it will be defeated. The Senate won't if they are smart. I think that Bush is playing this one on both sides, saying that he would sign it
IF it came across his desk knowing full well that there is little chance of that.
However, he should realize that without the NRA support in the last election, he very well may have lost. If he does something so stupid as to re-authorize the AW ban, I will sit home or vote third party.
I'll be damned if I vote for someone who is determined to cut my throat.

"Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the NRA, said Bush's support was somewhat irrelevant. "Ultimately, I think this issue is going to be decided by the Congress," LaPierre said. If it is, the NRA has reason to be optimistic."THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REALIZE!!!
