Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson pulled the plug Friday on contracts with friends, associates and former colleagues who were receiving up to $8,470 per month to provide consulting services to his office.

Wesson's decision ended weeks of simmering controversy, inside and outside the Legislature, over open-ended contracts that did not stipulate what work must be done or set deadlines.

A double dip for Sally Havice

By Sacramento Bee --
Published 2:15 a.m. PDT Saturday, April 12, 2003

California legislators can rest easy: They don't have to worry anymore about the cold, hard job market that awaits them after term limits. All they have to do to achieve a steady income is ingratiate themselves with Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson, who in return will reward them with a job, or, at the very least, a consulting contract.

Consider Sally Havice, who termed out of the Assembly last year and returned to a full-time post teaching English and speech at Cerritos College, earning $67,360 annually. With Wesson's help Havice is moonlighting as a consultant to the speaker's office, providing advice on higher education issues for another $99,000 a year. Havice may be an Energizer Bunny, but we suspect at least one taxpayer-funded institution is getting less than its due.

As with the rest of his stable of well-paid consulting buddies, Wesson hasn't offered much detail about Havice's activities. The consulting contracts seem deliberately vague. And the speaker's generosity -- in a season when the Legislature must consider cuts to vital services for ordinary Californians -- couldn't be more mistimed.

He cut some advisers off, but only cut the double dippers pay by half on her second "job". What a piece of work Wesson is.

Stunning how corrupt California State government is becoming under Davis. Corruption is never removed once there, either. Each predecessor will add a little more.

California Demoncrats are the gleaming droplets of stinking slime dripping off of the short hairs on the testicles of the pit-dwelling, garbage sucking worthogs of American politics. Nothing is beneath them!

Political consultant Richie Ross applauded Wesson's moves and said the decision to hire friends and associates stemmed largely from Wesson's good heart, not baser motives.

Can you believe this sick scumbag Richie Ross thinks Wesson has a "good heart" because he likes to give away other people's money? Un-friggin-believable.

From the editorial:

"And the speaker's generosity -- in a season when the Legislature must consider cuts to vital services for ordinary Californians -- couldn't be more mistimed."

The speaker's "generosity"?!
This disgusting pig Wesson is "generous" with money confiscated from ordinary Californians.
That is, he is "generous" with other peoples' money!!
And the Sac Bee thinks Wesson is "generous"?

Man, what's in the water out there in Kalifornica?
