The U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals is affirming a ruling that threw out a lawsuit by the survivors of a fatal plant shooting in Goshen. The suit was filed against the city and the police department by two survivors of the shooting and the wife of one of the survivors. It stemmed from the December 2001 shooting at Nu-Wood Decorative Millwork

Employee Robert Wissman killed a plant manager and wounded six other workers before taking his own life.

The suit claimed that the city failed to prevent the shooting. When plant workers called police to report a threat from Wissman, an unidentified person told them they wouldn't get involved unless Wissman harmed someone.

Similar suits have also been filed by the plant manager's widow and another victim.

It's routine for the courts to state that law enforcement officers job is not to protect people but to enforce the law. How man squad cars say "to protect and serve"? Seems like there's a heck of a lot of false advertising by government. For the most part local police are stand up people doing a dangerous job under a "system wherein politicians create dozens of unconstitutional laws before even considering repealing just one unconstitutional law.

That is not a system -- it's a cluster fu*k of deception, irrationality, fraud and abuse. Police officers get the dirty job while politicians and bureaucrats seemingly appear to be squeaky clean.
