Among the crowd was Joan Stewart of Houston, who rushed to the rally after hearing about it while visiting here. She held up a photograph of her stepson, Cpl. Heath Long, 28, who is assigned to a Marine helicopter unit in Iraq.

"I feel so proud," she said. "I am from Brooklyn originally, and I am proud to be an American and a New Yorker. It makes me feel great to be an American."

Leave it to a Texan (naturalized :) to show New Yorkers that the rest of the country is proud of their rebound from the 9/11/01 attack.

Not a surprise at all that her son is a marine either. :)
