Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

I love the fact that the axis of weasles are meeting to decide what will happen in Iraq

They have nothing to say about it.

Talk about masturbating

Is David Gregory usually this rude to Ari at the WH presser?

Yes.  But Helen & Terry Moron are worse.

I can't watch. Gregory practically spitting in his angst that President Bush hasn't named a day for the war to end. Is he mentally ill?

Yes.

Seriously?

Yes.

Did he ever ask Clinton about the end of Kosovo?

No.

Does he listen to the daily CENTCOM or Pentagon briefings?

No.

Does he have a clue about history, warfare, freedom, decency?

No.

The freed Iraqis are looting the UN and co. (France, Saddam-ites) because they know who ignored their suffering and aided Saddam.

Free Iraqis will kill the UN members...and Dan Rather, Chirac, Sarandon... Who would honestly blame them? None of our troops should be asked to risk their lives to protect those who helped Saddam. They have no business being anywhere near this country for a long, long time.

The Iraqi people will choose their own future. France, Russia, Kofi...how dare you make any demands of the Iraqi people?!

All of the press briefings are like that. WH, Centcom, Pentagon. I don't know how the spokespeople do it without swearing alot more. I am glad they are on TV, though. This way the American people can see the contempt the press has for our leaders.

I listened briefly to Moran cry about "the looting" which I think they only care about to the extent it can be portrayed as a "failure" of the mission somehow. I stopped there.

Rush is on and read that piece by the CNN bureau head revealing what they really knew about the atrocities and corruption and oppression going on in Iraq.

Rush is disgusted and exposing the implications of just what this means about CNN.

Thread about this:

Remember that CNN is the only news network that has a bureau in Havana. I wonder what they are hiding there?

SHOPKEEPER KILLED

US soldiers have shot and killed a Baghdad shopkeeper defending his business with a Kalashnikov assault rifle against looters.

The 25-year-old merchant pulled his rifle on the thieves when they began ransacking the shop, neighbours said.

When US soldiers approached the area, the looters told them that the shopkeeper was a member of Saddam Hussein's Fedayeen paramilitary force.

The American troops reportedly opened fire with machine guns, killing the man, the neighbours said.

An AFP photographer saw the covered body of Mohammad al-Barheini lying on a shelf of his shop, his head in a bag, on the Al-Rashid commercial street in the capital.

I was on the phone for the 1st few questions, so I'm glad I was spared the aggravation about Moron's questions.

It is interesting that CNN is finally coming clean. They made a deal with the devil to stay in Baghdad (well, until they were booted) and now they're trying to say, well, we DID make that deal with the devil, but see how brave we were to stay & become a media outlet for Saddam?

During the past month, the ratings of the three major nets have declined..while the cable ratings have soared...basically, people don't turn to NBC, CBS, or ABC anymore for the news....FOX is growing....Greta's show this week is getting OVER 5 million viewers..the most ever..more than double Aaronn Brown on CNN..( and that's with Greta, fer pete's sake) .and this week, Fox&Friends beat the CBS morning news show..first time ever they've beat a major net morning show.....also, another fact not yet reflected, IMHO...I think this is the first time that lots of folks are watching these press conferences live, and they're starting to hear and see the institutional biases of the media...change is coming...it'll take loner that it took the US to take Bagdad, however..

BTW...I think it's a lock that after the war, sometime this summer....either CBS or ABC merges its news division with CNN....the broadcast nets will be able to get a better deal than beforem because CNN is way down, therefore, not as valuable..and they need time to gear up to cover the primaries and the election cycle.....

Re: Looting.

After the LA pro basketball team wins, they burn parts of LA. Same with many other cities where teams win. Comparatively, the Iraqis seem relatively sedate. After all, they were just liberated. It's not like they won the Badgad City Basketball Championship.

Good question. Very good question...

I would warrant whatever goes on over there is pretty well known amongst most bigwigs in the media. Witness how they make a pilgrimage over there from time to time to kiss Castro a$$.

The story before this "broken seal" theory was floated by this guy, was the underground area had never been known of, much less entered, by the UN inspectors. And that is a key element of the story. Agreed! All these "experts" and former inspectors are saying they never saw or knew about a secret underground bunker. Well..if it was a secret..then it stnads to reason they would not know about it. Further, since they had minders with them while inspecting, do these yoinks really think the minders are going to say "Please make sure you check our secret underground bunker"?
