"Most people in the cloning field will be surprised by this," said lead researcher Gerald Schatten. "This work demonstrates there's a pothole in the process. We now know the depth and breadth of the pothole, and we're designing strategies to get around" it.

These folks just don't get it, do they.

Something most people don't understand is that DNA has a lifespan.

Cells divide and the ends of the DNA strands break off.

Eventually they cannot divide any longer and be viable. There are proteins that block the "disintegration" of the ends of the DNA strands and those proteins frankly affect the biological clock of every human. If you have good DNA that can sustain more divisions, you live longer.

Cloning someone who is older means the cells cannot divide that many more times and for example, a toddler could get a disease that only affects folks in their 60s.

By the time you're 35(gads, I'm almost 36), you've burned up nearly half of your divisions and your DNA at this point SUCKS! Damn. Hold ma beer, I'm gonna divide.
