Fox Offering More News Talk Than News (Sour Grapes Alert)
ContraCostaTime (Bay Area Rag) ^ | April 10, 2003 | Chuck Blarney

AN AMERICAN flag logo adorns the upper left corner of the screen. Dramatic stand-up-and-salute drumbeats pound away under regularly scheduled updates. Gung-ho, self-aggrandizing commentators behave like cheerleaders sans the pompons. Dissenting viewpoints get summarily crushed with the verbal equivalent of bunker-busting bombs.

What is the significance of Hughes Electronics?

Did Direc TV not carry them on the lower rung of packages before (or at all?) and is this going to change definitely?

Come to think of it, couldn't Murdoch just knock out CNN from being aired on Direc TV if he bought it?

No network tugs on the heartstrings as effectively Fox. Regular features include "The Ultimate Sacrifice," in which mug shots of fallen U.S. troops are displayed with their personal information (over more drum beats) and "The Heart of War," which offers chummy, home movie-like video clips of military personnel in nonbattle mode. In their own way, both carry plenty of visceral power.

Yeah. How dare a news network be good to the people in the military.

Seems like a pretty fair article to me. I like Fox...Rick and Greg are good(I think Rick is more enjoyable). David Bloom on MSNBC was Tops. I actually see the Gab factor on all the networks, but Fox really can be the worst on that sometimes. I can't tell you how many times I wished They could hear my shouts of anger. Every time they are showing live video with interesting sounds then they like to cut into it with there gabbing. As if repeating there comments for the 100th time is more interesting than the live sound in the video.

This gets carried to even more extreem when they actually cut off there own embedded reports at times so that they can continue their commentator Gab. They also gab for 20 minutes...then put on a good guest speaker at 2 minutes before the hour and then rudely cut them off(Perminantly) so they can go to a commercial break. Like why can't you finish and then have your commercial break?

I still like Fox...I just wish that they would get a clue about these thing that they do that are so anoying.

Actually, the dude's name is Chuck Barney, not Blarney. Just a little play on his name by SamAdams76. I, for one, appreciate a pro-American stance when listening to the news. I'm tired of the anti-American slant; it's bad for my blood pressure.

Oh.....tsk, tsk Sam!

.38sw--- I, for one, am simply glad to hear news that makes an attempt to report BOTH sides of a story, rather than leaving the 'right' side lying in the dust of obscurity!

I flip back and forth between all the different news channels, but always come back to FoxNews...I think that they really are the fairest, and do show and discuss, all sides of an issue....

I am glad that John Gibson is now on FoxNews, rather than with his old employer, MSNBC...I would watch MSNBC, just to see John Gibson....luckily now, he is with FoxNews as well..

My favorite on FoxNews?....its got to be Neil Cavuto...I will gladly sit through his financial programs(financial progams are not my favorite things to watch), just on the off chance, that he will come up some great one-liner...

But the best part of Neil Cavutos programs, is the last few minutes, where Neil offers his own personal commentary...which are by far some of the best commentaries ever...and his commentaries on this whole Iraq war, have been nothing but one gem after another...short, succinct, marvelously worded, true, and right to the heart of the matter...

Thank God, for FoxNews...

I think she has a good show and does an excellent job of hiding any agenda she may have...if in fact she does have an agenda.

Well in about five weeks of watching her almost nightly, I get no whiff of any agenda at all from Greta. That's why I wondered on another thread the other night what all the fuss was about. She has done some great interviews and she seems to know her stuff.

"...I really wish that Shephard Smith was about 20 years older and about 40 years more mature."

I wish he would speak in conversational English. The next time I hear him say something like, "The President in Washington today, saying he supports...", I'll probably have to buy a new TV. Hey Shep, there's this verb called "to be", you know? It's great, because you can conjugate it all sorts of way, like "is", "was", "will be", etc. That really makes what you're saying a whole lot easier to stomach.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

IMHO, I have to disagree with you. During the Clinton years Greta, Geraldo Juan Williams were Clinton suck up's. This also goes for Dennis Miller. I find it hard to believe there people have changed their core liberal beliefs and now have conservative points of view.

It's just that we stupid joe sixpack's don't know any better than to watch Fox. The ultra-nationalizm is leading us into fascizm and we're so stupid we're letting them do it to us. Only the left can see through the charade.

"I dearly love Fox News, but I really wish that Shephard Smith was about 20 years older and about 40 years more mature. His gleeful antics in the midst of a war have me reaching for my remote far more than what I'd like to. "

Personally, I have trouble paying attention to anything my darling hubby says when Shep is on.. one day the hubby is going to get tired of the competition though I'm sure..

One more thing I saw just last night(but not the first time). One of there embeds finaly reports in. The Women comentator Gabs and then shows the video of there reporter standing there live. She Then explains that we will have to wait to talk to him untill after a commercial break......Time passes. Comercials are over. More gab...Now to our embed....(Crackle...hiss). Oh we lost him! That happens sometimes...Blah Blah Blah! Talk about stupid. The commercial and the Gab could wait. Show some respect for your embed who has been risking his health and life and put him first before your nonsense.

Just seeing who is and who isn't paying attention here!

Anyway, Revel's comment reminds me of a pet peeve I have with respect to the embedded reporters. All too often, the embedded reporters giving live reports are cut off in mid-sentence so that the host can move on to the next segment. This pisses me off of. The embedded reporters are risking their lives to bring us news from the front. They should get top billing and the talking heads in the studio can just cool their heels, even if it cuts into their time.
